Ebay is dead for me

Absolutely had it with Ebay. I have a business account with 100% good feedback, prices are well below others selling the same (successfully) for much higher. I used to sell these badges like hot cakes and for a lot higher bidding. My accountant has advised that I change it to a private account as it is hardly making any money. Of course once it is a business account you can't change it back. I was making around £70 a month last year to almost ZERO this year. Nothing has changed. These badges are still popular so it is not lack of demand. They have always been the same price so that hasn't changed. It's dire, absolutley dire !

As for private selling, that is also dire. I have Dr Who magazines from the late 80's, early 90's that dont sell and we are in a Dr Who revival. Years ago when kids of today had never heard of Dr Who they sold well.

One word DEPRESSING !!! :(

When I started my badges at 99p, sometimes they got bids up to £30 in the extreme. Now I can't give them away.

hubb, you've posted this a few times now over the year but this time I think there may be a glitch somewhere as items are missing from visibility. It seems to be affecting a lot of TRS people whose items can only be seen if a buyer checks through via their user name. It comes and goes though so might not fit your scenario as it seems to last for no more than a few days before it goes and affects someone else.

Everywhere is dead for me now, I can't sell anything on Amazon, I don;t really count ebid as its always dead there, but I've got listings that have been up a month with 1 page view only- so one buyer bothered to actually notice my item in almost 30 days. I usually get a lot of private sales from repeat customers as well, and have had nothing for weeks.

The last few B and M auctions I've been to have been half empty. one alst week ended up with high numbers of items being unsold as they didn't reach the lowest reserve- there was no one bidding at all.

Incidentally, I would change your accoutnant- his advice was at best 'interesting'

    making any money

Isn't it over years? Isn't there a long thread with people giving advice and hubb ignoring it?

I'm slightly concerned by someone earning £70 per month on Ebay employing an accountant, I'd worry about their priorities.

"These badges are still popular so it is not lack of demand.", doesn't make too much sense. If they aren't selling, how do you know they are still popular?

As Soolin says Ebay is 'odd' at the moment as are many other sales outlets. Most people try and adapt, or move on.

    My website's doing allright.

I did notice that a collection only BIN on ebay I tried to buy, that listed payment as paypal prefered, would not let me buy it unless I paid by paypal straight away?

That's a new thing is it not?

Some people - me included - like to see collection only items and pay cash, rather than pay up front and risk not getting anything.

I know it's changing so that people who do "free P&P" are the ones with visibility.... have they started that yet?

I am a self employed media creator, Ebay is a small part of my overall income. Even smaller now.

Sounds like a seller error if collection was listed as an option they could have added other payment options. BINs are going to immediate payment but collection items will still be exempt (as far as I know).

Ditch ebay, sell via a website, or a microsite, take payment via sagepay, promote via google.

    Job done.

Leave ebay to the chinamen and the people happy to work at a loss.
