Incorrect amount of deposit credited to bank account

Help please....went to Santander agency branch and paid £300 cash in to my account. Have noticed two days later that my account has only been credited £15. Have spoke to Santander main office and they say I have to take it up with the agent and get him to see if his cash deposited into that agency for that day is higher than it should be. The agent says he is checking but does not recall taking that amount off me. If the agent denies any discrepancy what can I do?

£300 in £20 pound notes paid across the counter, no paying in slip used. Got a receipt and did not look at it at placed it straight into my wallet. Found the receipt today and shows £15. Used this agent many times before with no issues.

So they've counted the quantity of notes and then typed that into the computer instead of the cash amount.

Since you receipt says £15, I don't see how you are going to argue the point.

Maybe a complaint may cause them to look at camera footage if they have any?

Do you have any proof that you had £300 in cash as say an ATM receipt or statement showing you withdrawing the money from somewhere else?

Well the cash was given to me as the deposit for a car that I have just sold so I could get that person to verify the fact

Seems to me the only hope you have is to report it to the police and hope there's CCTV that shows you handing over a wad of notes.

Unless the agent gave himself a bonus that day.

  • As most people have mentioned, goto the bank and ask for the security footage to be reviewed for the day in question that over sees the tellers position. But hurry.. I guess they don't keep the footage for ever.
