butting in here, but I just got an AAdvantage card. I should know this having had a BMI MBNA card before but:

who sets up an AAdvantage account that will be linked to the card? Do I need to do that myself? Or is it somehow automatic?

They will set one up on your behalf. Wait a couple of weeks and then call MBNA and ask for the account number. After that you should be able to go the the AA website, put in your number and click the 'forgot password' button to reset it.

This should work although you might end up having to call AA as well. I was actually quite surprised how poorly implemented it is - it's fine once it's up and running but at the start there is no communication from either company (MBNA or AA) that gives you your log in details. Also, there is no single point of contact to resolve issues, you end up having to call both separately.

    alright, thanks!

I intend to start using it, just don't want the opening bonus going to the wrong place!

don't worry about it, just use the card. Your first statement will show all the points you have earned, including any bonuses. So long as it's recorded on there you will be able to resolve any problems when they arise. If needs be, AA can merge duplicate accounts into one.

ok finally managed to log in after some effort... (turns out I have an old AA account on the same email, that expired 8,500 miles in 2010 :( )

my account balance is 0 miles, but I guess it takes a little while to get credited

    cheers
  • Yeah, on my first statement it took about 2-3 weeks post statement being generated for the points to show. It should get a bit faster once things have settled down.

I have the current aa members credit card, none of this monthly or yearly payout nonsense, points added daily and can be spent at any time, 4000 points gets you £20, double points on fuel and servicing / items from garage, my current favourite card.

Sounds like you have the A(utomobile) A(ssociation) card.

This thread is about the A(merican) A(irlines) card. :)

When I applied from MBNA I got an acceptance email but this took about 5 days and then I received the card in the post..
