18866 problems?
Comments
-
it's an intermittent prob I suspect due to network capacity in maybe a region.
Sometimes just dialling 18866 on its own results in an engaged tone and sometimes its ok. Dialling 18866 and a landline also results in an engaged tone or sometimes its ok.
I'm gonna email 18866 now.0 -
Can't use your phone?karenj wrote:BT checked my line, no problems there and also no problems using 18866 number with BT. Emailed 18866, but their response was that they will look into it and it could take 2 days! But I want to make calls now, not in 2 days time!! Emailed them again so will see what response it. Getting REALLY REALLY fed up now cos can't use my phone!
Isn't that a bit of an overstatement?
It's a weekend for goodness sake. A call of up to an hour to any UK 01/02 number today will cost 5½p from a BT residential landline (as opposed to 18866's 2p).
Surely that isn't going to break the bank?Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").0 -
Problem solved now. Must have been an overload or something.
April2 yes I can use my phone but I am not going to phone my parents on a Spanish mobile using BT's rates!!! I would rather pay 15p per minute than 40p plus per minute thank you!!0 -
Hi,
Yes I was having problems with it today. I too rang a few people and got the engaged tone but on another cakk it was fine !"The time is always right to do what is right"0 -
Karen, in case it happens again, take a look at Martin's Callchecker (in the dark menu bar above) for alternatives for Spain mobile.
There are others at 15p that you use by dialling an 0906 or 0911 number to connect to the service. No account to set up; the charge appears on your BT bill.
If you use Just-Dial, put 141 in front to withhold the number as they may use it for telemarketing.0 -
Hi, here's a penney pinching question for you all. I am signed up to 18866 and 1899. I have the orchid magic box! At the moment my landline calls are directed thru 18866, and I have VOIP thru 1899 when I can be bothered to use it. 18866 went up the other week(as we all know). I am paying 2P connection and .5P/min. On 1899 its a straight 3P connection fee. so whats the general consensus to which is the cheapest? Thinking of moving to 1899 for the landline calls. Thoughts please0

If you're using BT (& paying line rental to them) then the cheapest for geographical calls (those beginning 01 or 02) is Call18866 at only 2p per call (0ppm).
If you're on a non-BT (or are paying line rental to another company like OneTel. etc), then Call1899 may be the cheapest as they only charge 3p per call (0ppm) for geographical calls through their freephone number.
For those using a BT line but paying the line rental to OneTel, etc you may get away with being able to use Call18866 via their short code 18866. If not then its Call1899.0 -
jellytot wrote:Hi there guys i have just tried using 18866 no probs but i am in glasgow and using a bt line.

There was deffinately a problem over the weekend, ok on Monday tho. But thats no good if it starts happenning too regular. I am set up thru an Orchid controller, & it would be a right pain to keep reconfiguring it if its a regular occurrance0 -

 That explains a lot, I am with NTL, I wondered why different people where quoting different prices. Thanks for explaining0
