Is anyone having problems using 18866 today? I have tried to phone several people and it keeps giving me the engaged tone. May be just a hiccup, but it's annoying when you're trying to phone people cos I am not going to use BT!!

    I'm having probs as well.

I think its a network capacity issue.

Having constantly trying to redial the same number eventually after a couple of mins I got through.

I have no probs using OneTel override code, or even BT's.

    Dear James,

Thank you for your email. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you hear an engaged tone immediately after dialling the 18866 code (i.e. you cannot even enter the UK telephone number) this could be due to your BT subscription. If you have a BT ‘light user scheme’ you will not be able to use our service. However we would advise you to contact BT to check which scheme you are on and if BT allows you to use Indirect Access codes.

Should you have heard this tone after dialling the UK telephone number it may be that this number is not known correctly on our system. If this is the case could you please let us know exactly which telephone number you are trying to reach and the date and time of the call in order to investigate this further.

At the moment we are also experiencing some capacity problems at peak times which will be resolved in the very near future. If your calls were made at peak times could you please try again on a weekday morning or afternoon? It would be much appreciated if you could inform if calls in the morning fail as well and which telephone number you were ringing from plus the exact date and time in order to investigate this further.

    Thanking you in advance.

    Kind regards,
    18866 Customer Services

Getting worried now. 18866 still not working and after the post from ceeebee may be a problem in the north west - I live just outside of Manchester. I hope it doesn't continue. I'm still waiting to call people. Anyone know what the number is for BT to call with these problems?

Makes sense, I live in Liverpool and I'm having probs. Just dialling the 18866 (without a ongoing number) results in an engaged tone.

Unfortunately, I don't know the number to ring on BT assuming it is a problem to do with BT apart from maybe their faults line. I'm guessing 151 is a good start.

BT checked my line, no problems there and also no problems using 18866 number with BT. Emailed 18866, but their response was that they will look into it and it could take 2 days! But I want to make calls now, not in 2 days time!! Emailed them again so will see what response it. Getting REALLY REALLY fed up now cos can't use my phone! First problem I've had with them and hope it's the last! Please let me know if anyone else still having problems; at least then I will know I'm not losing my mind...........
