Hello,
I've started to really love mushrooms, with them being roasted with cheese. Slight problem is I'm still not 100% happy eating the stalks/skins. I find this very wasteful, is there anything I can do to use them up?
Thanks for any help

Mushroom soup? Or a mushroom sauce to put with things like chicken or steak? Or in a casserole?

i don't bother peeling mushrooms, unless they are a few days old and the tops are a bit spotty. they just need a wipe with a damp cloth or paper towel.
the stalks treat like the cap, chop and fry.Cats don't have owners - they have staff!!DFW Long Hauler Supporter No 1500 -
Does anyone seriously peel mushrooms? the stalk is part of the mushroom same taste and texture as the rest of it, I would just use it in whatever I was cooking.1 Sealed Pot Challenge # 1480

If you dont like skins and stalks with cheese you probably wont like them in soup or anything else either.
I would just sling them. Compost them if you have one.0 -
I peel and destalk mushrooms all the time. They're the bits that have been nearest the dirt and exposed to the air, dirty hands etc!
But then I don't eat the bottom [STRIKE]bread on crusts[/STRIKE] crusts on bread as that's the bit that touches the bottom of a potentially dirty tin
OCD anyone?0 -
peel and destalk a mushroom? heaven forbid! only the woody bits of the stalk get chopped off - and I don't care if the skin is a bit spotty, the mushroom is still perfectly good to eat.
I still wanna know tho - where DOES all that dirt come from? you buy perfectly clean mushrooms and two or three days later they have dirt all over them! one of life's great mysteries!0 -

Erm, how can I put this kindly? Probably.
My music system only works if you press the buttons an even number of times. It's an OCD player.
Seriously, I've spotted the warning signs of this in my own behaviour lots of times about many things, but not mushrooms. Yet.If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5?

and yet I let my cats sit in the kitchen sink and walk around the worktops....... My cats are sparkling clean though. :A0

Potatoes? Apples?.. most root/ground veg is covered in $h!t... and you are bothered about people touching them?! Tree fruit insects walk on and birds turd on. Slugs and snails trot their slime all over everything.. mushrooms are the least of your worries
I sometimes wonder how I bear to eat anything at all.
(I only use toilet at home and if I go elsewhere I have flash wipes to clean taps, seats, doorhandles etc.. and most I won't use at all and I cannot poop anywhere but my own home)
Mushrooms I slice, rinse and microwave.. or add to omelette.. or just eat raw..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0
