Parking Ticket Hell!!

Here's an example of how these people attempt to defraud honest drivers out of their money:

See the logo they used to use? To all intents and purposes that is a fake police badge.
Absolutely shocking.

Nope, if you park in a disabled bay you MUST display your blue badge, AND display it correctly, that includes round the right way and the clock correctly, it's in the instruction when you get the badge.
Unless you have the original instruction leaflet with you when you place the Badge it is impossible to know from looking at the current design which is the front of the Badge. My Mum's partner was unfamiliar with the Badge and placed it incorrectly while helping Mum out of the car.
We subsequently got a parking ticket/invoice which I challenged on the grounds that it is impossible for a stranger to tell which is the right way round. The fact that the Scottish Executive have produced a revised Blue Badge (shortly to be wheeled out around the rest of the UK) with 'FRONT' clearly written on it was, I said, tacit acknowledgement that it is impossible for a stranger to know which way round to place the current design. British law works, I suggest, on the prinicple that if you want someone to do something, eg keep off the lawn, you have to tell them, eg specify where the lawn is.
The fine/invoice was cancelled based on my point about the Badge having no obvious 'front'. However, I wonder how many people are being 'fined' for putting their Badge up the wrong way round? On this basis they should all be let off.
If you check out the Scottish Executive's web site you will see the improved design: http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Transport/Road/individual-blue-badge0 -
hiya,
Is there an outcome to this yet ?
I ask because yesterday i parked on the private carpark of a leisure park in a space i thought was perfectly fine. No ticket needed, no disabled markings. Apparently it was a pedestrianised area. I and thousands of other people have parked in this area before which appears exactly the same as the rest of the carpark and is generally used when the spaces are all gone. Its a very large area and i was on the fringe of it. Well i returned to my car to find a private parking company UK P.A.O had stuck a "charge" to my window saying i had to pay £60 within 10 days or it would go up £3 per day followed by dvla and then court. Apparently signs have recently been put up telling you not to park in the area. Signs i honestly did not see.
Can these private parking companys get away with this ? I cant afford £60 within 10 days and yet it seems if i dont pay it i will have the charge multiplied and will be taken to court no doubt resulting in a CCJ !
In all honestly if it was £20 fine i would have bit the bullet and paid it already but £60 is robbery and is why i ask if these private companys are allowed to do this !
any help appreciated0 -
Hi "sparky_1"
I have "pinched" the following from another site.
If I was in your shoes then I would send the following letter to UK P.A.O....
if they get your details from the DLVA and send you a demanding letter.
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am in receipt of your invoice for parking at the (details of location) on the (insert date). I note you have written to me as the registered keeper of the vehicle. Please be advised that as the registered keeper of the vehicle concerned that I have no liability whatsoever to pay your invoice. You need to contact the driver and invoice them directly.
Please do not correspond with me any further on this matter except to confirm that you will be not taking the matter any further with me as the registered keeper of the vehicle.
Yours sincerely

Thanks for the replys. Ive searched extensively on relevant forums on this subject and have decided not to pay their "charge".
One thing though, if the case does reach court will it result in a negative entry on my credit file ? Or will it only result in a negative entry on my credit file if the court insists that i pay the charge and i dont pay it ? It wont result in a negative entry simply for appearing in court over it will it ?
any help appreciated0 -

There will only be a mark on your credit file IF they issue Court proceedings and IF the Court finds against you and then IF you don't pay within 28 days.
Since they will never, ever issue proceedings (and if they do, they WILL NEVER win), you've nothing to worry about.

I visited The Ridings Shopping Centre, Wakefield, and their carpark machine issues Tokens/counters (plastic about the size 0f a 50p coin).
I lost the Token and when I was leaving the carpark I was met with demands of £10 to replace the cost of the Token + the carparking fee.
I spoke to the manager at that time and he said I couldn't Exit until I had paid.
I was told that if the token was found I would be reimbursed?
I offered to pay for parking from the start of theat day, which would only amount to £3, but they said the Token was MY RESPONSIBILITY!!
He claimed that there are notices posted to this effect.
I don't think this is legal and surely it is a criminal act to stop you from removing your vehicle.
Their reason was that the tokens cost them £10 from Germany, but I think that if they choose to run such a scheme then it's at their cost as overheads or whatever. What if the tokens cost them £50 each, would the public be expected to payout?
On payment of the £11 I later read the invoice which said I could be invoiced for the amount later, at no time was I told this!
I've emailed them and asked for a refund and await their reply?
Meanwhile, I rang them to ask if token had been found, NO was the reply.
What are my rights?

Hi all,
Today I got a parking ticket (£50) in a council car park for not displaying a ticket. I had put the ticket on the dashboard as instructed (not sticky ones) but I was in a hurry and it had slipped down behind the black painted part of the screen. So technically I failed to display it properly, but surely a strong case for appeal.
The process of on the ticket advises that any appeal must be sent with full payment and depending on the outcome will refund partially/fully.
Do you think I should send the full payment with my appeal or risk it being increased to £80 or more...
Thanks in advance
