Lost the volume on HD channels (Freesat)

For over a week now we have been unable to get any volume on the HD channels i.e. not just low volume but NO volume/sound at all.

No other channels are affected, nothing has changed with our TV/dish set-up, so we are completely mystified.

Any ideas?

Might be a problem with your HDMI lead. Ensure it's securely in place and/or try another in it's place.
Your set up doesn't include an amplifier does it?

yes, it does include an amplifier. Is that significant?

(the non HDMI works fine and it's the same cable anyway isn't it?)

You've got no sound, through an HDMI cable into an amplifier, on ONLY HD channels, and the SD channels have sound through the same connection - is that right?! What are the models of the Freesat box and amp (and TV if we're talking about sound through here?)
Only thing I can think of is that you might be getting Dolby Digital sound on the HD channels and someone has maybe pressed a button on either the Freesat or amp to output/accept MPEG instead of PCM and the amp doesn't support it?!
  • I have the same problem with a Humax Freesat box and Yamaha sound bar amplifier. Its very intermittent but still a pain. However I can always get sound through the Amp whether HD or SD.

Its not a perfect cure but I find switching between SD and HD channels, switching the Amp on/off whilst changing channels fixes it, eventually....

I did google the problem and its not uncommon but couldn't find a proper cure.

I have a similar problem with the HD channels on a Panasonic TV with Freeview playing through an Onkyo amp. It is intermittent, and we have to turn up the TV sound rather than play through the speakers, but it is annoying!
