Ebay case, Sent a £300 tablet to Portugal, Buyer says package didn't contain tablet

Am I toast?
Sent a £300 tablet to a buyer in Portugal. They have said the box contained a hard drive and laptop battery (which have English writing on them) instead of the tablet. They also said the seal was broken on the box. They have sent pictures to confirm this.
Is it possible Parcelforce have tampered with the parcel? The buyer could be lying (they have 24 positive feedbacks). I'm getting quite depressed about this situation. I have submitted a claim to parcel2go.

Do you depend ebay for a living?
I'd keep the cash and let paypal take the hit, will P2G cough up?"Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Well Ebay/Paypal will ask the buyer to return the items with tracking for a refund.
I'm not au fait with laptops/tablets but you had better check you were covered to send it.0 -
I don't want them to return the package as whats inside is now worth almost nothing (its a CD drive and a battery thing).
Someone opened the package and took the tablet. Possibly Parcelforce. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
They are handed over to local couriers/postmen - and in some countries thats asking for trouble. Not sure about Portugal though.
I sent 4 items to Argentina in one packet - it arrived with 1 item in.
Royal Mail refunded cost price - which was double what i sold them for. Happy days.
Was told poor postmen in some countries help themselves. The fact the contents are written on the custom slip for none EU countries does not help. May as well just write "steal me"!0 -
This was sent by Parcel2go via Parcelforce.
The stuff that was in the package, the cd drive and battery were English version which makes me suspicious that Parcelforce UK have edited the contents. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

yes ebay is my business.
How can I keep the cash and let paypal take the hit?
The buyer has opened a case, if it goes to ebay/paypal, they will refund the buyer and I will be left -£300 (I! will be taking the hit )This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
By his own admission Brooker_Dave has been banned from Ebay several times, so taking his advice is probably not the best way to go.berbastrike wrote: »yes ebay is my business.

If it was properly insured with Parcelforce and it has been signed for, you should be fine with Paypal. I've had a similar experience as a seller and they took my side (as it turned out the buyer was telling the truth too, but courier sorted it in the end). Get the buyer to submit photos of the box and how it has been tampered with to pass on to Parcelforce, also advise the buyer to contact their local police. The couriers should have weights of the item taken in the UK and any other countries it was checked through, so that should help. Unless you have contrary evidence it's best to deal with the buyer as though they are telling the truth..0 -
Ensure that the buyer keeps all the contents & packaging.
Make sure you get the Parcelforce claim in within 30days & I would contact Parcelforce direct rather than P2G, as P2G are sometimes a little hard work to get things sorted.
Providing you took adequate insurance with P2G & have the original invoice for the Tablet, you'll be covered for the cost price of the tablet.0 -
this is why you never deal with international customers0

The Argentine post service did insist Royal Mail staff had stolen my items BEFORE it reached their country.
Does make you wonder what happens on route.0
