Death of T Mobile iPhone - what are my options?

Back in January 2012, I renewed a contract with T Mobile. It tied me in until January 2014, and they provided me with a shiny new iPhone 4S. I've been with T Mobile for 15 years, with the exception of one year in which I treacherously decamped to Orange back in 1998, before coming back to T Mobile.

Pretty much exactly 13 months after the contract started, the iPhone began to die. There are 7 faults, which I won't bore you with, but involve everything from it wiping my contacts once a month to the failure of the GPS. I have an appointment with Genius Bar tomorrow, but something tells me that it's going to be expensive to get all these problems fixed.

T Mobile's tech support have (Rightly, I suppose) told me that since the phone is out of its one year warranty, they can't help me, and if I want to terminate the contract, they'll be able to discount the termination fee by 25% (Although I note the didn't quote a price for that!). Foolishly, everything in my life appears to be on my phone, from my shopping list to my satnav, so going without would be a nightmare. I don't really want to lose my number either, since I've had it for over 10 years and it's quite a memorable one.

I'm a bit frustrated now, and I have a few possible solutions in my head, but I have no idea what's realistic. My ideal solution would be for Apple to fix the phone there and then, but since a few of the faults seem hardware based, I have a feeling I need to be prepared for that not to materialise :( Does anyone have any experiences or idea of what to expect?

You can expect to pay ~£150 to Apple for replacing your handset with a new (refurbished?) one.

The standard Early Termination Fee is the total cost of the remaining months.

Your number can be ported to any other network should you wish to leave t-mobile.

It's not that I am advocating paying the ETC. Personally, I'd never do this.

Another option is to sue t-mobile (supplier of the handset) if the faults were not caused by damage and you can prove this: Consumer Rights Armour
