The fact that it is windows 8 would put off anybody who has used it before0

I went recently from XP to 8 and yes it was a shock and I hated it at first.
Getting used to it now though and quite like it- I don't think it's a great leap forward for OS in general- if Microsoft wanted a touch screen friendly OS it should have been aimed at touch screen devices and not computers- but it is more than use able and I think people need to give it a go, learning by using it and keeping a guide such as "For Dummies" handy.
Most of the time when I use it it's in the "like Windows 7" view anyway.0 -
To be honest, I've always preferred windows 2003 it was so easy to use.. Why do they have to make things even more complex.. ughhh!!0

Win 2003 was only ever a server OS (AFAIK) - never a desktop OS.0
-
Some people ran it as a desktop OS, most notably gamers, because it stripped out a lot of the fluff of XP, supposedly leading to better performance.
I have no idea how much better the performance was, but I'm sure for the price of server 2003 vs XP you could have bought a faster graphics card or something.0 -
Win8 is a problem but other than that the device looks OK for £1990

I think it's OK beause the Lenovo comes with everything a casual user would need in a laptop. It also doesn't come doesn't have a terrible or a brilliant price. I suppose what i should have said is average not OK0

Netbooks are not laptops!
I'm really getting sick of people buying them and expecting them to be a perfectly usable laptop that can do everything a proper laptop can, mainly because the biggest offender is my bosses boss who then has a moan at me when it's slow to compile a gigantic visual studio project and takes ages to encode videos.
(Ignoring the spam nature of the OP's posting behaviour...)
A netbook is more a laptop than a laptop is a machine suitable for anyone needing to compile or encode, surely?
For ninety percent of users all is needed is a browser and decoding video. I think the machine is definitely a laptop.
Screen resolution is fine (it's all you get sub £800 nowadays). I would rather a 12" machine with a 768 screen than buy a 15" machine with a only a 768 screen.
Graphics chip is fine (6310 decodes 720p and streams 720p)
It is, of course, last generation (or even two) but at £200 is fine - I'd rather pay £200 (or £280 or £320 new) and be surprised by how much I can do than bump my price up to £400 and end up disappointed by what I can't do.0 -

I happen to disagree, especially when you can pick up a fully fledged laptop for £230 these days.
Really? In what way? Are you really saying you can buy a laptop with an IPS 1680x1050 screen and separate graphics chip for £230?
I'd love to see what your idea of 'fully-fledged' is.0
