Nationwide Mortgage Tax Credits Issue

Hello,
Myself and my girlfriend do not live together. She lives alone with her two children and receives various tax credits. I made a telephone application with Nationwide and explained our salaries, loans, benefits/tax credits and we were given a Decision in Principle.
Now we have gone to a full mortgage application, the people who are looking at the supporting documents I have sent in (DWP tax credits notice, payslips, bank statements) have said that because the DWP tax credits notice is just in my girlfriends name and the mortgage application in joint names that they can't accept it and I need to speak to the person who did the original Decision in Principle.
In the first instance I did explain that my girlfriend would almost definitely lose the tax credits when we bought the house and moved in together. I gave them my home address and my girlfriends home address so they know we do not live together, they know our salaries. Why are they suddenly surprised about this issue?
The people looking at the scanned documents have said if I speak to the original 'mortgage consultant' that they might be able to push the application through without the tax credits income.
Does anyone have any advice? If we lose this mortgage because of this issue I will be absolutely livid with the Nationwide. They have already took a week and a half to post out the mortgage pack and lost one of the documents I originally sent in so I had to resend. These delays mean it's been nearly three weeks since I put in the full application and we haven't got anywhere!

This is resolved now. The tax credits were not entered as income on the application, only child benefit. They have accepted the bank statements as proof of child benefit, they do not need the tax credits notice.
Just a breakdown of communication at Nationwide I think.0
