Virgin mobile mess up - Advice required!!!!!!!

I'm in a dilemma, heres the story-

Ordered online from Virgin Mobile- Samsung U600 at £40 on pay monthly 200 mins/500 texts @ £25 and received the phone last week. Got my PAC code from O2 a few days later so phoned Virgin and gave them it, my number took roughly a week to change over. So finally my number changes and im well happy using my new phone as normal when suddenly it stops working, i phone the customer service line (789) and get greeted by a message saying i have no more airtime credit!!!

Gets through to an operater and told them im on pay monthly, she checks the computer and says im definitly on 'Pay as you go'. She also said there was no details of my bank account in her computer system, despite me setting up the direct debit online, so i should just top the phone up!!!

Checked my online billing and it also says im on 'Pay as you go', but when i check my recent calls it only goes back to when my number changed over, despite me using the phone on the original number they sent me for a few days.

I tried phoning the original number they gave me and i get a message saying "you have dialled an incorrect number..."

So heres my dilemma....

Do i sit tight and top up the phone and hopefully get away with paying only £40 for a Samsung U600 (worth around £200)??

Or do you think i'll still get billed in a months time for my monthly line rental???

Anyone any idea what will happen here?

Perhaps they accidentally sent out a Pay as you go sim as opposed to a Pay monthly sim? Don't know if this ever happens.

When calling the Virgin operator, instead of getting identified by your mobile number perhaps if you gave them your name and home address their system will show a different account?

Just an idea. Hope this helps.

Im worried i have a pay monthly account for the original number, which means i could spend money topping up all month then get billed at the end end of the month for calls and txts that i havent used

If the e-mail confirmation and contract you signed(?) (not sure how online purchases of phones go) say that you have a pay monthly contract then that means Virgin can extract money from you for that at any point in the future.

I wouldn't just hope that Virgin forget about you and sweep it all under the carpet, if you do that, you'll never cancel the contract and it could theoretically run on indefinitely ... just imagine the bill in 20 years time!!!

Give them a call and like I said, instead of giving them your mobile number, give them your name and home address and ask if they have details of a different account there?
