Kitchen Recommendations Required

I was wondering if anyone had advice on kitchen cabinet brands. I've been put of the big players such as b&q, wickes, homebase and magnet by many of the posts on this forum. So i was wondering if people had any experience of the independents out there. Those that i have come across include

Masterclass
Crown
Mereway (who i believe do John Lewis cabinets) and
Second Nature.

Would appreciate any advice you can give as its alot of money and i don't want to get it wrong!

I think with the big companies it is always going to be down to whoever the local staff are - although the likes of MFI in their day ALL seemed to be awful. I lady at work had one by Kitchens Direct and said they sent Polish installers who were great, but in another area she could have got someone rubbish. Another option is to buy yourself and get in a handyman if you can have one recommended - works out a lot cheaper. and don't forget to haggle!

Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!

Look at independents as well. Its more important that someone understands your requirements and can deliver to your budget. You have indicated a pretty wide range of brands there and at the Mereway (and sometimes Crown/Second Nature end) you are going into entry level German kitchen territory so you could get some nice and durable stuff for your budget.

A designer you can trust at a company you are comfortable working with is the most important element of the project.

I am happy with my Magnet kitchen but I got it through a fitter who ordered from Magnet trade . I had no complaints at all and it was cheaper than ordering through Magnet

Hi, I'm getting a second nature kitchen fitted at the end of this month, just over £9000 but includes granite worktops and 3 x built in appliances ie. dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer!! That is supply only. I ordered my kitchen through a kitchen supplier but I believe it's cheaper to order second nature through diy kitchens if you know all the sizes etc. :)
  • Do you mind me asking what size kitchen that is for roughly.

Second Nature is not a brand of kitchen though it is presented as such. Its a brand of doors supplied through PWS distributors.

Its worth the carcasses its supplied it as the supplier is expected to buy doors and then source carcases, hinges, drawers, handles etc seperately. The carcase could be anything from a decent quality one to one cobbled up using a circular saw with iron on edging and very basic drawer boxes.

It is almost impossible to compare the cost of a second nature fronted kitchen unless the source and specification of the carcase is known.

Where in the country are you?

I would look at an independent shop, I assume they have their own team(s) of fitters, whereas I would worry with a big company as to whether or not the fitters are okay.
