Drowning In Things

Anybody Else Feel As Though They Are Drowing In Possessions.

Mainly Toys In My House But I Am Sick Of It.

Keep Clearing Out But The House Is Still Full. Really Difficult To Get Rid Of Things Now That The Kids Have Them, So I Blame Myself For Buying Too Much In The First Place.

Just Feeling Like A Moan.

eBay is your friend! Maybe you could ask relatives to pay into a savings account for the kids for birthdays/Christmas? It saves accumulating 'stuff' (where does it all come from?!) and you can teach the kids about managing money, too! (if they don't already know)

Same here. And the clutter begat clutter! I am not so keen on ebay. Tried offloading my stuff but so hit and miss in selling and just ending up with fees to pay! Charity shop and dump is the way to go. I can barely find anything and end up re-buying stuff I know I have. I am thinking sellotape, nail clippers etc.

It is my aim and dream to be organised. Everything in its place and put back immediately after use. Sympathy in buckets to you OP.

The dump? Eek! Why not just give them away? There's bound to be someone who will want some of them - and they'll collect from your door!

I appreciate what you are saying Squeaky but when I say dump I do mean things that are really broken! Anyway I understand there are scavengers at the dump too :)

    Mortgage-free Glee!
I decided years ago, that when my grandchildren arrrived, that in todays society of stuff, I would just give a book on birhtdays/christmas and put a gift into a savings account!

I still think this is the right choice for me, though others deem this to be mean!! Parents/kids seem happy enough!

I think that's a great idea and most parents appreciate it.
My mum and dad did the same for our kids and they were allowed to make some purchases (with permission from gran & grandpa) when they were older.
I don't have grandchildren yet but I would like to do the same.

unfortunately some grandparents seem it necessary to buy unneccessary items. The amount of clothes my children have had from one particular grandparent and they have never worn them (i have sold them on at a reduced rate). it would have been so much better for them to have bought a new pair of shoes, or paid towards swimming/music fees. Unfortunately in my case suggestions like this don't go down too well.

We've got a baby due (actually overdue...) and I don't want to sound ungrateful but I am worried about the amount of "stuff" we are going to get! A lot of our friends have older kids so people are really excited about our new arrival- we got quite a bit of tiny baby stuff at Christmas before I was 20 weeks pregnant! People are so kind and generous and love to give gifts but it's hard to know what to do with it all!
