Will normal bt speed up?

At the moment in my road broadband speeds through a BT line are about 5mb, (they say between 3 and 7mb) but they're doing this whole area at the moment with infinity. I know we might not get it here anyway, but if they do put infinity here, will the normal broadband speed up? At the moment I'm with virgin, but want to cut cost, I dont mind drpping our speeds a bit, but going down to 5 would be a big drop.

ADSL broadband will remain whatever speed it is now. Your area getting FTTC won't affect ADSL speeds.0

No you'd need to upgrade to infinity to benefit from the improved infrastructure.0

Thats no good, but thanks anyway.0

So you expect them to invest millions improving the network and then get it for free? You need to remember BT are a business.0

5 is an ok speed for most uses, 3 is enough for hd iplayer. When fttc is everywhere, most services will probably move over to fttc or cable.!!

BT will need to face up to the fact that people with traditional ADSL will bail out (even from BT's bargain basement called Plus Net) to Talk Talk.
Sky/O2 will be able to offer better coverage bundles for those wanting something better.
As can Virgin in areas with cable.
I think:
BT has signed up 0.75 million to their TV package.
Sky has obtained ~ 4 million broadband customers.
Watch this space?
I have a nasty feeling that my money is on Sky as everyone is forced, by BT raising prices, into signing up for a package deal.0 -

How is it no good? It's a totally separate infrastructure. You want fast, you pay for it.0 -

When I switched it cost no more money than the previous aDSL line had so check the suggested costs first before rejecting it as a service.0 -
I saved £20 a month witching adsl to fibre £10 was mealy for a offer for 6 months discount but after that 6 months is up its still saved £10 a month and get 62-65Mbps compared with adsl 12-13Mbps0

My virgin bill is £27 a month for phone and bb, I know I'll still have £14 phone line charge, but we can get sky bb for free, we've both got internet on our phones, so saving £13 a month might be worth the slower speeds.0
