Help...the OH is going to kill me LOL
I made a lovely big batch of jam yesterday, for some strange reason, took ages to reach setting point ( different recipe to what I have used before )
Anyway, to my horror, while potting up, I discovered a load of burnt/stuck on jam on the bottom of the pan. Ive tried scrubbing it, soaking in boiling water, soapy water, bicarb of soda, silver pan cleaner but all to no reall effect...is there anything that I can use ( short of buying a new pan! )Kent Bird!:beer:0 -
Try soaking it in a combination of washing powder and soda crystals, about a cupful of each dissolved in hot water, overnight.0

Kim and Aggie on How CLean Is Your House boiled rhubarb in water in pans to make them shine. It might also help remove the burnt bit. Worth a try...
There is always Oven Pride which works well on my blackened oven parts.0 -
a soak in diluted biological washing powder usually gets rid of it.......I know as unfortunately I've had to use it so many times0

I did this last week when I burnt some gooseberry jam - liberal amounts of Stardrops and half an hour's scrubbing got it off. Best of luck!December GC: £3500

Hi - Blimey, I remember the year I managed to do that to a practically brand new jam pan :eek: If you haven't solved the problem yet, I can vouch for the fact that filling the pan with plain cold water and bringing it up to the boil will enable you to chip away quite a lot of the burnt stuff, but I suggest you use a wooden spatula or spoon to chip away with as you don't want to damage the pan with a metal spoon.
I found I had to do this twice but it got rid of the vast majority of the burnt stuff and then I just finished it off with a pan scrub.
Good luck0 -
A tablespoon of dishwasher powder in half a pan of water and bring it to the boil. That will get it off even if you have to do it twice. However it's not good for aluminium, it will discolour it. However you can restore the shine afterwards by boiling up half a lemon in some waterIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

The first time i made jam it burnt at the bottem, i stir mine now as it's boiling. Anyway, in the end i had to scrape my pan with a blunt knife to get it off, though obviously it wasn't a non-stick pan0
