Text Messages From JobCentre+

Has anyone got text messages from JobCentre+?

I sent a new fit note into them for ESA, and they texted me saying:

Hello! We have received your fit note. You do not need to contact us.

I got another text from them the other day asking me to fill out a customer survey.

Very surreal. Are they catching up with 'new' technology? Lol

With the cost of postage these days, I can't blame them for using SMS to confirm receipt of posted items.
Sounds like a good idea to me. At least you know they received the fit note alright.

Somewhat bemused at the idea that DWP is somehow behind the times on this sort of thing.

They have one of the largest computer systems around and in terms of allowing claims without attendance at a building; telephone service; not having to apply for certain things that are automated; no longer storing large amounts of paper files in offices (allowing cost savings); providing mobile services; involvement in 'one stop' services; equality etc they are well ahead of other organisations.

Are insurance companies, banks, travel agents etc now routinely in touch with customers via text? For individual reasons, I mean, as opposed to advertising.
  • You just don't expect the DWP to do something that makes life easier.

    I think it's a pleasant surprise.

    I think it's a pleasant surprise.

Maybe it's just because I'm older but once upon a time all claims had to be made in person.

That was replaced by a postal procedure and then extended to claiming by telephone. Now online.

    Reply paid envelopes.

Once upon a time everything (even 10p in the bank) had to be verified now it's only if you're close to relevant amounts.

They now have procedures for verifying other information, saving the applicant the trouble.

Websites, calculators, benefits bus, exhibitions, provision of posters & leaflets to doctors, dentists offices, folders to keep your paperwork in.....

Carrying out nasty government rules and various cutbacks is a different matter - as is obstructive staff who like to be....well, obstructive and vindictive is a different matter. :(
  • Personally I would be worried if this is the way forward.

There is nothing better than having a printed copy of a letter, beit through the post or via email to have the proof for the future.

How would you argue that you received a text if it was deleted by you?

Definitely going down the wrong road. I like everything in writing as I don't trust the DWP or any government department.
