MSC Cruise website price rip off

Last week I attempted to book a cruise on the MSC Fantasia for the 4 August and was quoted what seemed a bargain £2,208 for a family of 4 including flights. However when I attempted to pay for the holiday I received an error message suggesting I called their call centre for assistance after I entered my cridit card details. Almost immediately I received a call from MSC advising the price shown was was incorrect and I should have been charged over £2,600 after explaining I was unhappy with paying any more than the quoted price were prepared to offer me a 10% discount.
Having decided not to proceed I have just attempted to book the same cruise again and was once again was quoted £2,208 but was unable to pay for the holiday once again getting an error message.
This seems to me a blatant attempt at ripping customers off by misquoting the initial price in the hope we will still book the cruise when we receive the follow up phone call, I suggest you give this cruise company a miss.

If you believe it is deliberate miss stating prices then inform Trading Standards0

What 'error message'? You said they called you the first time, nothing about an error message0 -
Appears the OP had an error message both times he tried to book. Hopefully the OP won't be back to report that the money has been taken from his card on both occasions!0

You should be thankful you couldn't book on-line. I did and they charged me twice for my cruise. I only discovered it the day before I left when I was checking my credit card account on-line. What really worried me was that MSC wasn't aware of the fact they had charged twice until I told them.
You have had a narrow escape im my opinion.0 -

It wasn't that long a post, how did you miss it?

Bit confused here, you say you've decided not to proceed, but you are still trying to book?
All this sounds more like web site glitches rather than a 'blatant attempt to rip people off'Early retired - 18th December 2014

At least they rang you to explain there was an error, instead of letting you confirm the booking, pay then discover the price was wrong. Not "ripping off" really is it ?0

Now had an email saying the website fails to include children's air fares at £240 each although there is no suggestion on the website such charges will apply.
If it's not a rip off it still seems sharp practice to me to leave the website deliberately showing an incorrect holiday cost without fixing the problem, or even giving any warning message. As one minute I thought I'd booked a good value Cruise the next being asked to pay 20% more!0 -
try booking cruise only and get your own flights - maybe it's cheaper that way?0

But you did get a warning, you got an error message asking you to call them. They didn't take your money and then ask you for more did they ? The website shows an incorrect amount, they obviously know this and will fix it, your booking is never complete until you've input your payment details and the payment has been authorised. I don't really see what your issue is.0
