You need to insure the creditor agrees to mark your credit file as debt settled in final and full. So if you already have defaults etc this isn’t going to make your rating any worse. All creditors have my letters now so I’ll keep this post up dated how I get on. If anyone has had experiences with this please let us know.

Good news guys, got my first letter back today from a creditor – Horwich Farrelly. I offered them 25% to settle account of £200 but they refused, offer to settle for 50%. Can’t complain so I’m going to pay later today, one less creditor to worry about. Still looking for anyone that has experience of my other creditors??0

Hi Miss Frankie,
If it's any help my son & dil have only yesterday got Alliance & Leicester to agree ( through a dca) to a partial settlement against their debt.
This has taken 2 years but every case is different!!
They have been told that there will be a note on their credit file to show it has been settled and won't leave a bad mark against them.
Good luck

Thanks Amethyst. A&L called me yesterday and they have received my letter so fingers crossed we can come to some agreement. Can I ask did your son have to keep making payments on the debt until a agreed settlement figure was reached? Thanks for your post.0

Morning everyone.
Am still looking for anyone that has dealings with my creditors or anyone thats been through the same process, how long does it take? I know each creditor will be different. thanks0 -
Hi Miss Frankie,
Yes son & dil did have to make repayments - but after giving A&L their budget and also then the DCA they were only paying £5 per month - so eventually reason won as neither A&L or DCA would have ever got the amount they have settled for (which by the way is less than was offered 2 years ago even allowing for the 24 months paid)
Good luck

Hi Amethyst
Could I ask how they got the company to mark the credit file as settled, and not to leave a bad mark? Did they have to fight for this or were the DCA quite happy to do this? I only ask as I am trying to get Barclays/ Central Debt Collections to do this for me, and I don't seem to be getting anywhere.
Thanks

Still waiting on letters from creditors, only had the one back from Horwich Farrelly which I paid straight away. Think I'm addicted to this website.0

Thinking about doing the same - any advice gratefully received - do you startb small and end up at the figure you can sort out or do you offer the what you can afford at the beginning?0
