The reality is that you have been negligent by not looking after your belongings effectively, you don't have appropriate insurance in place, but you think a) someone else's insurance should pay out and b) the same 3rd party are to blame because they don't 'train' their staff about pickpockets.

    Get real.

If you didn't notice someone scrabbling around by your feet and nicking a handbag I'm not sure how you can expect the staff to do so.

(new poster, silly scenario, just my suspicious mind?)

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

To be fair to the OP, the thieves are unbelievably quick. I had a bag stolen in similar circumstances once, there were a whole table of us and not one of us saw a thing.

Though I really do think restaurants should do alot more in terms of training their staff to spot a potential pick pocket...

The police struggled to catch burglars. Once burglars realised that wearing striped tops and masks while carrying a bag over their shoulder was rather obvious. Instead they looked like an ordinary member of the general public to blend in.
  • I agree with HugoShavez.

Many policies cover you for accidental loss/theft of keys without you having the Personal Possessions section. Take a look at the Contents section. Its usually in there as an additional cover item just after the main perils are listed.

Don't listen to the posters who suggest that you are "negligent". That's a poor attitude towards someone who is clearly distressed having become an innocent victim of crime. Yes, you can take additional precautions (once bitten/twice shy) but that does not mean that you did anything wrong in the first place.

    Hope it works out ok

Try taking a look at insu*******bag
It'll cover you for your bag and everything inside including your phone!

    Please report for SPAM.

All posts from this newbie, dragging up an old thread, relate to this handbag site.
  • Presumably the OP has reported the theft to the police, they have visited Nandos to view CCTV and will investigate? she may be a known person.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
  • General thing to take away from this is, as you have gathered, be very cautious with your bag and try and secure it either by putting chair leg through handle or similar.

Secondly, I am astonished by the level of thefts which appear to occur at Nando's. I have been in three different ones to date and witnessed upset diners who have found their belongings have gone. These are all in different parts of country. Be extra careful in Nandos evidently!

If only you could position a loaded stun gun inside of the bag. It would certainly help in identifying the offender.

Nope. They're not responsible for your belongings.

    That's not always true.

If they offer to store your belongings or you pay for them to store your items then they do have a duty of care and can be held responsible.
  • I've always found a loaded mousetrap in my bag deters would-be opportunists. But then the things I carry in my evening bag have been the subject of comment, (some even ribald), already.

Please ask your insurers about the cost of changing locks - as it is in their (customer service/satisfaction) interests to help you.
Also check the police know Nandos has CCTV.
