O/S Daily Wednesday 17th April 2013

O/S Daily Wednesday 17th April 2013 This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine.

  • Good morning everyone :)

Another warm afternoon/evening/night, I think I need to change from Winter to Spring duvet ASAP as was too hot to sleep well last night.

I am officially in love with the new steam cleaner, my bathroom is sparkling and doesn't need to smell like a swimming pool any more! I am not giving up my bleach spray just yet but the steam cleaner is amazing. Tonight I am planning on cleaning the oven, hob and splash backs.

DH is out training tonight so it's salmon and noodles for dinner. Usual soup for lunch but am thinking it may be time for salads soon ... or am I getting carried away by a couple of warm days.

Well wishes for all sick people and pets and hugs for those who need or just want them. Keep well and safe and have a super day :)

    Morning All,

Halight This is spooky:eek: I settled down last night at 11pm, woke at 12.50 and then didn't wake until 5.45!:T Longest I've slept for ages!!

Feel really good this morning too. Cat is now fed, DW emptied and cuppa on the go, must go and have a shower next. Still got the chesty thing, but not too bad.

Watching Mrs Thatchers' funeral this morning. I think it's so rude of people to protest about her death, whatever you feel about her politics, she was still a mum and grandma.:A Personally, I thought she was amazing. If it hadn't been for her "Right to buy" scheme, I wouldn't be living in lovely St Leonards, I would still be in London, which was horrid.:o

Anyway, had Corned Beef Hash and a poached egg for dinner last night, really enjoyed it. I am running the freezer down so we can move it and put a new door on it (it got bashed when it was delivered) so I'll see what is in there!:rotfl:

    Have a good day all!

    Morning all,
I was woken at 5.30 by the bl00dy crows making a racket, they've returned to nest in the chimney so I came downstairs and lit a fire and fed the BM.
I did some cooking last night for the men who are felling the tree today, I made some scones and a cake to go with chicken sarnies for their lunch.
MEANMARIE, Like you we will be using the wood, just hope it will season in time for winter. It's a lot of money to have the tree cut down but we will save in not having to buy any logs.
I hope it stays dry today and the men turn up on ytime.
    Have a good day all.

    Morning All

A Bit drizzly here today but the strong wind has died down thank goodness, it was difficult to drive in it yesterday. It did stop raining from about 3pm but it was too windy to put the washing out - the towels would have been in the fields!

Went for a swim after work, had a bit of a tidy round and then started on a new jumper while I waited for DD to phone for a lift, she went to meet friends for lunch at 2pm, she phoned for a lift at 10 past 10 - some lunch!! Anyway, I went to bed and read for a bit, must have settled about 11pm and didn't wake till 6.20 which is really good for me. Think I have definitely been sleeping better since I started swimming.

School work today and then evening work at 6, will clean the bathrooms in between and hopefully hoover round if the part for the vacuum arrives, they are certainly not hurrying.

LO pasta sauce for tea, DD can have pasta but I will have rice so nice and easy tonight.

    Take care. XX

    Morning all,

Brrr chilly here this morning, but I think it will brighten up later on. Off to work for me today, and dd back at college need to drop the dog at mums too.

Went and saw dad yesterday, he is on 2nd lot of antibiotics for a chest infection, and now has thrush all over his mouth, I have asked the nurse there to order some stuff for it, and will take a live yogurt in which should also help.

Dinner tonight will be chicken fried rice, dd is off to town to end it with the boyf (she could not do it the other day as there was an incident at work and she had to stay late) so dinner will be a bit later on.

Ok better get on, have good days all xx

    Morning everyone

Hugs to all those that are feeling sad/poorly x

Cloudy, dry but dull, wind has died down here this morning.

DH up and off to work stupid early.

Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, followed by ice creams/yougurt. Remembered to get the pork chops out of the freezer for tonight but put them in the fridge as soon as I got them out of the freezer and they are still frozen this morning - so have got them out and they should be defrosted by the time I get home at lunchtime. Will serve potatoes, veg and LO cauli/broc cheese and gravy with them.

Hairdresser came last night so all the menfolk look smarter this morning.

Work yesterday was relatively quiet with odd times where it became really busy - will see what today brings.

Working just until lunchtime, then on days off and off work next week as the bathroom is being replaced next week the work starts on Monday - so house will be in even more of a mess than usual! It needs to be done though, and it will be nice to have a proper working bathroom, with another shower - as at present we only have a bath in there so will be better for the menfolk. I will get on with all my normal jobs - have kept on top of the dirty washing as I've been able to get a line full out in the morning and it's been dry when I've got in from work - have another load in a the moment - not sure that this will dry on the line though looking at the weather! The downside of that is that the ironing pile is rather large but at least it's all ready to be ironed and hasn't cost me anything to dry it.

    Keep safe and well x

Well OH and I had a lovely date night last night and I am still totally porked from the meal so I'm just going to have a cuppa for breakfast. I'll make some tuna pasta to take to work for lunch. Tea tonight is hm soup out of the freezer as we will only have half an hour turnaround before going out with MIL & FIL to see Joseph & The Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at the theatre. I'm not usually out this much - it's just been an exceptional week and I desperately need some time to get caught up on housework (there goes the weekend :) )

I finished my crochet scarf for my mum for Christmas. I can't post pics as I don't know how, but here is the pattern (mums scarf is green):

I am posting an ebay parcel today (the last one that was advertised as Royal Mail) and will now be giving MyHermes a try. A lady at work suggested a website called ParcelMonkey. She said that you put your parcel weight and dimensions in and it gives you all available couriers that can take it so that you can compare prices side-by-side. I haven't tried it yet.

We sold a load of spare mirrors from OH's work (on ebay) a month ago and the guy is supposed to be coming to collect them today - I am soooo looking forward to getting my dining room back! :T

Hilstep. I totally agree with you about Margaret Thatcher - regardless of whether someone agreed with her or not, she was a mother and grandmother and she wasn't even cold before people were celebrating - imagine how her family must have felt? I personally think that this country (and Easington in particular - who are having a party today complete with comedians and brass band) have REALLY shown themselves up - not exactly the best impression to give to foreign investors! My sister (who suffers from dementia and lives in a care home but had moments of being amazingly astute) summed it up perfectly when I told her what was happening. She said, "Well they didn't have parties when Myra Hindley died - and she killed children...". The people who are celebrating Margaret Thatcher's death should watch the Panorama programme about Korea - now THAT is scarey!

Right, better go and get my tuna pasta made! Have a great day all! :D
