So I'm not guessing, or one of those people who thinks they know, but really don't. I actually have one, as do many other people.
So was this other "company" claiming to want to employ you? Or do you mean Disclosure Scotland?
Who received a copy of the check documentation other than yourself?0 -

The fact is that having passport details, as well as a few other details (that the OP's employer may or may not have provided), then the details culd be used for identity theft.
I would suggest that the OP demands to know exactly what information the company needs, and why. And that if it is just for security checks, that the OP's employer verifies any information required, without sending copies of passports to foreign companies.
No, is not a foreign company . It's a well known company that deals with foreign exchange0 -
I would be careful, if you refuse they may just find someone who is happy to comply and get rid of you. The banking world can be pretty brutal.0

If you read the match betting sub forum you will find providing Passport, drivers license and utility bills to gaming companies is often an absolute requirement in order to prove your identity. In lots of cases its also a regulatory requirement.
In the years reading and doing this myself i have never had any problem whatsoever and neither has anyone else brought this up as a problem, not once, and let me tell you there are plenty of companies who have later turned out to be dodgy.
I honestly think given this is a foreign company with a set procedure who you have been dealing with for a long period of time the risk is virtually zero that any fraud attempt could take place. When using the housing forum please use the sticky threads for valuable information.0 -
To be fair to the company, most letting agents, solicitors, storage cos etc etc will want to see a passport before doing business with you.0

If someone is employed by a company who wants a security check, then they would do it. But if you are self employed, then you have to get it done yourself.
There are plenty of companies who will carry out these checks, Disclosure Scotland are just one of many.
If you are self employed then you hold the certificate. And then any companies who you are contracted to, and who require it, can take a copy. Then they can actually verify that it is genuine.0 -

Even so, I would do as I suggested.0 -

I can't name names here, but there is a large organisation who required all their employees to provide copies of their driving licenses. These copies were sent to an outside company to check the details. The outside company then lost all the details somehow, so who knows who has them.
Following this many members of staff now refuse to have their licenses copied. Instead they just show their license to their department manager, who checks the details himself...problem solved.0 -

Cannot see what OP is getting worried about.0
