    I am in total shock over this underhand dealing!!!

    They and other companies need to be hauled over the coals for this dispicable behaviour.

    I think Watchdog would have a field day with this.

    Take it all the way!

    Wonder if the operatives are 'incentivised' to get people to say it is suspended rather than cancelled?

    Almost certainly. The phone agents will be on a target of x% of cancellations converted to 'suspended' membership.

    Or did you mean that they say 'suspended' when people complain, even when they know full well that the person has cancelled? The first is normal business practice, the second is outright dishonesty.

    It's "easy" to negotiate when you're massively overpricing to start with.I think our AA cover was £220 or something, which my wife had been blindly paying for several years.I got cover for £50 in the end. So even if you negotiated it down to £120 and felt you'd got a good deal, it's still massively overpriced.

    This is indeed a new low from the AA. No doubt they will make millions from people who fail to check their bank acounts and assume that when they cancel a service, it remains cancelled.

    Sharks. They deserve to be massively shamed in public for this.

    I cancelled our AA cover when we changed cars just over 3 years ago. I remember the agent tried to convince me to 'suspend' the membership but I told them I wanted to cancel - I'll keep an eye out just in case it wasn't actually cancelled as I thought it had been, thanks for the 'heads up'
    Although we have taken out AA membership again since then, on the new car, presumably their computer wouldn't have allowed us to join as new members if our account had only been suspended?

  • We have had a letter confirming our complaint and giving themselves 8 weeks to respond to our complaint.

    :D The evidence will be at the FSA in 7 days unless we hear otherwise.

    Incidentally - I posted this on another forum and the AA joined up to respond and obviously asked me to contact them so that they could investigate. However they could not post the procedure or the term/condition that they are working to with this 'suspension' issue. Surprise eh?

    @The AA Company Representative

    Kind of you to 'look into' this for the OP. I think the rest of us would appreciate a more open an honest account of what is going on here, that everybody can be party to.

    Are you able to provide that?
