    Well, the wife has test diven the Micra and the Picanto. I would say they are OK but nothing special. Micra is bigger but the Picanto is cheaper. It's the i20 next. Without trying it yet, it looks by far the best value for money. Any negatives about the i20 auto?

    What about the I20's more up to date 'sister' car, the latest Kia Rio;

    Small five-door hatch. Currently has a Jazz and would have another but a bit pricey. She wants new even though it is a waste of money blah.... blah

    Why not just let her get on with it.

    Tell her how much she can have is she does not have her own money.

    Whats wrong with the current one? age mileage

    If she has to do all the leg work and research herself that may slow things down if there is nothing wrong with what she has allready.

    Wait 'til September and try a new Note?

    I was also thinking that, the only thing that would put me off is that it appears to only be a three cylinder engine and no auto box yet though apparently there is a CVT one coming.

    Make sure you know if you want an old type automatic or one of the newer more economical multi clutch thingies which will save you 10-15mpg over an old type. Go for a long test drive in a Toyota Auris with the semi auto box and see how she likes it. We have one and really like it. Then decide which type of gearbox you want.

    Current Jazz is knocking on a bit. Would have another in a flash but it is around £16,000 for a new one. She likes the CVT gearbox. This is a commuting car -- 15miles each way. The new Hyundai is about £4,000 cheaper.

    Was looking at the Toyota Yaris or the Aygo. The Toyota salesman has just put me off. He totally ignored me and only talked to OH despite that I'm the one who will be buying, paying and driving.

    Never understand what these semi autos are.
