Scottish Power Price reduction
I've been with SP for nearly a year now and so far so good. The only problem I had at the start was understanding their different prices for different past providers i.e. Northern to Npower and Yorks Elec to Npower etc. This makes a difference to your price when you switch.
However, now I've got that sorted in my head......the price reductions just announced have a caveat that may mean not everyone will benefit from the cuts in prices as shown in the emails from them. Has anyone else read this and had a response from them as I haven't when I queried the two conflicting replies
Hi I have received two conflicting responses to my query as shown below.
Question?
Is Scottish Power are to reduce their prices by 5.5% why are not all SP customers, not in tied agreements, going to receive the benefits? How do you at SP decide who will and will not get the reductions and on what basis?
Surely this will lead to confusion and possibly people moving from SP to other providers.
2nd response:
Dear Mr Hoskins,
Thank you for your email.
The reason only "some monthly direct debit customers" will benefit from the
price drop is because some of our online tariffs will still be cheaper when the
price decrease will come into effect.
For more information on these tariffs please view our prices on our website
using the following link

and then select from the options available.

I noticed from your news about price drop that only "some monthly direct debit
customers" will benefit from the price drop. Could you please explain this and
let me know if I will benefit or not and the reasons for this decision

The exact pricing have not yet been released so we cannot advise what change, if any there will be to your prices.

I'm a Scottish Power Customer and Live in the Northern Region and checked the new pricing Electricity Prices no change at all Gas Prices on the a very small change standing charge the same and a 0.084 p reduce per KWH for Gas usage. Whereas customers in other Areas (for Example London) have had a much bigger decrease in both Gas and Electric and had lower prices to start with. a bit unfair I think.0

Are you sure about this?
Electricity prices have a wide variation in different areas of the country.
However gas prices are normally exactly the same(for a given tariff) across the country.
Are you sure, for gas, you were using the same Scottish Power tariff when comparing different areas?0 -

If you look at scottish Powers website you'll see they have regional gas pricing for example
Northern Current 12.08p & 2.597 New 12.08p & 2.513
London Current 10.49p & 2.675 New 10.49 & 2.2720 -
Thanks for the info:
Checked my PRICE REDUCTION!!!!!!!!!!= NOTHING!!!!!!
This is the same as I am paying now!!!!
15 Northern Two Rate 15.645p 7.756p 3.618p without VAT
16.427p 8.144p 3.799p with VAT0 -

You are quite right; I have never seen this before; ir this new or has it just happened?
Most of the Major Companies still have the same rate across the country for gas; I wonder if any more have changed and vary prices by regions?
Yet another complication in working out the best deal; it was bad enough with electricity.0 -
It thought it was hard enough keeping track of tariffs at BG lol, I've never seen so many prices on one piece of paper.
I'm also fascinated by the 'deemed rate' - although I've heard of them, I never knew any company actually used them!0 -
It would be so confusing to try and change again as the cheapest provider for me comes up as....you've guessed it SP with the "price Fall" option. I would save £21 in the year wow! Not going to bother until there is a considerable change0
-
A bit confused now, I am online saver, is it worthy to change to "price fall" in mid June? Thanks0
-
Have been with Scottish Power for several years and benefited greatly from a previous price capping agreement. However my current deal - price guarantee until 2010 will not benefit from any reduction in prices announced.
Can I switch to anther supplier or will their be a penalty?0 -
I'm with SP and have been for some years. U switch always ranks SP pretty high for me. Id like to switch to an online tarif and wondered if I could stay with SP and switch tarifs via quidco and get the cashback.
Anyone done this?Awaiting a new sig0
