Buyer was very understanding. Ive left them positive feedback as they deserved that at the least, however I am very angry at my friend. They emailed me a photo of the laptop & it is genuinely a damaged screen, but if they were selling it, why use it on the eve of it being sold?
Lesson learned!0 -
I have to post, even though it's already been said, but I think it's really important. . .
NEVER EVER sell anything for anyone else, be it family or friend.
** EDIT **
Glad to hear it seems to have turned out OK in the end.0 -
Many years ago I sold some DVD box-sets for my girlfriend. Before putting them up on Ebay I asked that she go through each set individually to check that all the discs were there. A month after selling, one buyer emailed me to say that a disc was missing. I asked my girlfriend if she had gone through the sets as I asked and checked every disc was there and she assured me she had. So I told the buyer that the set was definitely complete when I send it out, denied a refund and got my first negative feedback. Fast forward a couple of years and we're moving to a new flat. Guess what turns up behind a book-shelf? To this day I still feel really bad for the buyer when I think about it.0

I also feel terrible for my buyer. I dont really sell that often, so I should have been weary about selling for someone who bottom line, couldnt really care.
Mercifully, the buyer was a good 'un! :T0 -
Just thought i'd add a little bit.
I have occasionally sold for friends but as long as they meet my rules.
The key one is.
They give the items to me before listing and they stay with me. (this means I can check them and I can take care of them)
if they are not willing to do that then i'm not selling it!
Other things like price and fees etc are discussed at some point but if their not willing to hand the item over to my responsibility at the start then i'm not selling it!if i had known then what i know now0 -

Just out of interest, what would you do if you had a chargeback 6 months down the line?0 -

not sure what you mean? I'd have posted it and therefore would have the relevant proof of postage/delivery depending on the value.
You can defend a paypal chargeback with proof of postage.if i had known then what i know now0 -

Yes, apologies I was thinking of SNAd, don't know why I typed chargeback when I meant dispute.
Would your friends be willing to hand the cash back and have a possibly broken item in it's place?0 -

ah i see, well to be fair i've only really sold pretty small stuff for friends (media/games, low value stuff) where the chances of SNAD are pretty small.
for larger more expensive items i'd probably say to my friends that their not getting their money until I'm safe from such claims, again up to them if they agree or not but it would all be discussed BEFORE I listed and I would take as much care with noting any serial numbers, security marking etc as I would with my own stuff.
I guess i'm just trying to say it is possible to sell for friends etc as long as you set all the rules before hand! Protect yourself first, and discuss all possibilities with your friend, if they dont agree then dont sell it! If they agree to my rules then thats fine.
1 other possibility that I have done is to buy the goods from my friends for an agreed price, and then I take legal ownership and therefore accept the risks involved with selling. Obviously the price agreed gives me room for profit but gets them cash now. Obviously you also need to be set up as a business to do this as you are technically buying to sell.if i had known then what i know now0
