  • If you're asking to take up the floorboards, and you pull out, it is possible that future buyers will want to do the same

    If the seller is serious about this sale, I would see it as being in their best interests to support you in getting through the sale. I can see him being defensive as he may think you are using it as a bartering tool, but in truth you are making sure what you're buying is in good order or that you understand the extent of what's needed

    I'm not sure I understand your first point. You don't recommend timber and damp reports but I should get advice?

    The valuer has already advised me that he thinks the problem is caused by the paving being too high and blocking the vents. However he *could* see signs of damage though, in that the plaster on one wall is bubbling. I need to know if that's as far as it goes.

    I have now arranged for an independent damp surveyor to visit next week so I'll see what happens.
