Heating Oil Delivery Error

Hi Everyone,

I'm not sure if anyone can help but we ordered and paid for 500 litres of oil to be delivered.
However when it arrived nobody was home so the driver posted a delivery note through the door with the ordered amount of 500 litres crossed out and the metered amount delivered showing 1000 litres!

The delivery company left a voice message on my phone last Friday saying there was a problem but as yet I've not spoken with them.

Does anyone know where we stand with this as we can't afford to pay for another 500 litres at this moment in time.

Many thanks in advance

I think this falls under Schedule 1 (the 31 banned actions) of the Unfair Trading Regs 2008:
(29) Demanding immediate or deferred payment for or the return or safekeeping of products supplied by the trader, but not solicited by the consumer, except where the product is a substitute supplied in accordance with regulation 19(7) of the consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 (inertia selling).15
This comes from the Guidance .. linked from the Office of Fair Trading website here.

I have NO legal training - but I can read! You can ask them to remove the extra 500l ..or offer to pay for it at some agreed price when the ordered 500l has been used (i.e. you would have had to order again: this may be next autumn). You may wish to report this to Trading Standards as possibly the supplier makes a habit of over-delivering and then asking for the extra to be paid for.

Whatever you do please post the result on this forum so others can benefit.

    Good luck.
  • Hello everyone, ive just been talking to calor about my monthly d.debit, hoping for a reduction, my tank was filled in feb. Receipt put through letter box £600 ish , he tells me on the phone that the tank was topped op with another £400 worth of lpg on saturday 13th april, as the driver was in the area and. We are on a fill when needed scheme, we were at home all day on saturday no one came near , no receipt posted. When i queried the lack of receipt i was informed they post it out when it has'nt been left. I am baffled how can they do this to people, has anyone else on the forum come across this practice.
