Scrap Condensing Boilers

This is a question to any plumbers on this forum, I'm really in need of help.

I'm in my final year of University doing Mechanical Engineering. I have a final year project where I have to model and simulate heat transfer in an existing condensing boiler model to try to make it more efficient.

I'm really stuck as the boiler manufacturers just won't give me specifications for the condensing chamber when I ask them for info. I guess that they are paranoid that I'm secretly a competitor or something?

I spoke to a plumber that visited my house and he said he was confident he could get hold of an actual scrap condensing boiler for me, but then hasn't been able to since he said he would.

I'm really desperate now as I don't have much longer left to do this and I'm still stuck as square one.

I'm willing to pay a bit of money (I don't have loads though as I am a broke !!! student), I don't even want to keep it I just need to take apart a conensing boiler so that I can have a look at the condensing chamber. I'm happy to give it back to them once I'm done.

Do any plumbers on here have any suggestions on anything I can do in order to get hold of one quickly, there isn't much time left?

I'm in the Nottingham area. I asked a couple of plumbers merchants but they don't have anything available for me to look at.

Thanks for any help anybody can offer.

    Welcome to the forum.

I got excited at the thread title; I hoped you were advocating a move back to non-condensing boilers; i.e. the ones that last 30+ years, have no electronic modules, virtually never develop faults etc etc.

Sorry cannot help with your request.

try asking on diynot.com in the plumbing section.

Or other DIY type forums, RGI's tend to hang out there to banter.

That's like asking for the energy industry to be re-nationalised, too many vested interests in the status quo for it to ever happen.

    Approach it the other way.
There will be patents in this area.
    Look them up.

Have you checked ebay or the uk plumbers forum..? How will you test it? Are you proposing to install it on a test rig at uni?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

As said try here. Several RGIs from your part of the world post (as well as trolls and know-nothings to be honest;)). In the meantime....info from Viessmann

    Good luck with your degree.

Use a heat pump to extract the last ounce of energy out of the exhaust. COP = 3 means 300% efficiency.

Whatever happened to conservation of energy? If this goes on, Virgin will pay me to fly to Hong Kong.
