Oh I thought of something else. If you don't currently have a broadband account which you are just going to move to the address you will probably get charged a set-up fee for the new broadband line as well as the normal monthly payment. Not sure how much that would be these days though as it was a while ago I set mine up.

Dont forget your essentials like food. You might want to do a shop as soon as you move in, ie basic cooking ingredients and cleaning stuff as well as towels, tea towels, bath mats, toilet cleaner, cutlery, crockery and of course bedding.

Once you have the basics you can always make do and buy as and when you have any spare money. Buying this stuff might look like its expensive but dont forget you dont need to buy it every week and you will soon build it up. Like you said you will be moving in the next few months so you could easily buy this stuff each week and put in a box ready including tins and things like salt, sugar etc which has a long shelf life :)

Hiya, moved in with OH two months ago, so good luck, relax and enjoy it!! re the curtains, we rented unfurnished and no curtains were included. prob best to check with the letting company.

Our shower is awful, really hot if you flush the loo or run the cold tap and brass monkeys if you leave washing machine running or run hot tap! Have used the latter, quite accidentally you understand on a few occasions, always works!!

    Hope it goes really well.

What a great excuse - "we have to share a bath Mum to save money" :D

You have no idea! My mum is really old fashioned and I haven't broken the news to her yet that I will be living with darling boyf without being married  Think she's going to have a coronary! At least we will be getting a 2 bed place so it looks 'respectable' :rotfl: :rotfl:

Thanks - didn't think about Broadband connection (as I don't have it at home) but I think OH will pay that sort of thing ;)

Yes I will be searching the sales etc for pillowcases, lamps etc. Not sure what size duvet/mattress we will get at the mo so will leave that for the time. Might drag OH to Ikea to have a browse and pick a few things up!

  • Start as u mean to go on. If OH/bf/so and you are going to have a full and lasting relationship, both of u must start as u mean to go on. Commitment is about sharing everything. If one of you is the main wage earner then all earnings go in the same pot. all essentials are paid out of the same pot and whatever is left is for BOTH of you. That is the essence of the partnership. For years, I was the main wage earner, and all of our earnings went into the same pot. Now i am a sahm and still all earnings go into the same pot. I chose to be the one who does all the budgeting etc but oh also chose not to, it works for us. We both discuss large purchases/ stuff we each individually really want and make compromises. It works for us. Basically, what works for you both is what is right and only a conversation between the two of you will let you know what will work! Lecture over, good luck in your new life and most of all, enjoy it!! All things change as time goes by, the secret is to change and adapt with it.

Thanks wannasavemoney. He's def the person I want to spend my life with and I've never loved anyone more. We just work so well together and communicate fantastically (99.9% of the time when my depression doesn't hit!) & I will take on board what you have said. and thank you.
