If a network wishes to cancel your notice of termination simply because you requested a PAC, they fall foul of contract law. There is NOTHING that states your assertion that 'any termination is cancelled when a PAC is requested'. All the customer need do is give verifiable notice and retain proof. A PAC is a number porting request, nothing more, it has no magical powers.
There is nothing to stop a network playing fast and loose and trying to make up its own rules, but there is nothing that states the customer has to accept them if they do not form part of the contract itself.
You are trying to have it both ways - request a PAC and this means you've given notice? Yet if you do not port, your service continued? THAT is not giving notice of cancellation - that is irrevocable.
Regarding the last bill - I'll state it again as you've not been paying attention. The problem is not that you may not be charged pro-rata - you invariably are. The problem is getting the money you needlessly paid BACK. A few networks have a policy that dictates if there is a credit amount of £10 or under, the customer has to request payment. If they do not, or don't notice - the closed account retains a credit balance.
The customer avoids this by ceasing service in tandem with the billing date, as there is no requirement for any part-month charges, or subsequent credit to be 'lost'.0 -
Since I'm only charged in advance to the termination date there is never a credit to reclaim but (unlike you) I never over pay because of a false fixation with the statement date.
I'm sure the numerous people on here who ended up paying more needlessly because their notice to terminate was negated by a subsequent pac code request (where the pac code was then unused) would be interested to hear how you think it should work compared to how it does.
You have some inorrect ideas about how things work which lead to very bad advice. Oh, yes; notice of termination is also not irrevocable.0 -
There seem to be a couple of different points of view here. My contract expires on 19th May with T-Mobile, but my other half got stung on the last contract we cancelled with them, and ended up paying for nearly a full month of her contract which we were unable to use (she had used the PAC to switch providers).
How can I cancel my contract and avoid paying for any time either over my contract (when my discounts will no longer be applied) or which I can't use? If it will save me money I can give up the PAC idea and just get a new number.
Originally I thought I just had to call up 30 days before hand and request my PAC at the same time. Will this not work?
I have read the points of view already stated on here, but if people could back up their knowledge with where the information has come from, that would help to make an informed decision
