Building Society Is Delaying the Transfer Of My Fathers Money HELP!

Hi I'm having trouble transfering out the money from my fathers Jamaica National Building Society Account (I've got Power of Attorney) to his Barclays account. Even though they received my request in writing (recorded delivery on the 27th of February 2013 they have delayed and delayed. I've written again and sent emails and visited the office a total of 4 times. The last time the manager assured me I would receive the transfer within 5 working days they just needed to take my photo ID again and because I sent my request in writing I didn't send a certified copy of my passport or Drivers licence? WHO DOES THAT BY POST? I've explained to them that the money is needed for major building works on his house and them delaying is costing us potential rental income. Today I have to apply for a loan from the bank because the work has to start and the builders will go off on other jobs! I've already been in touch with the FSO but welcome any further advice. :money::mad:

You think they will simply let anyone apply for POA without proof of ID....

  • You may have misunderstood I wasn't applying for POA that was all done at the branch last year when I was also put on the account as an account holder. I was requesting the account be transferred in the same way you would write to your own bank and make a request. POA wasn't the issue!

You have posted this in the Credit Cards area. I'm not sure of the best place but you may get better advice if you use The Budgeting & Bank Accounts Board

Far better to do anything like this in person with ID at the time.
