Wind blew my mini greenhouse over

The wind blew my greenhouse over yesterday :( It was one of the temporary plastic ones (2m x1m). It was guy roped down and seemed secure. Some of the plastic corner pieces are now broken/split and the staging is a bit mangled. The outside cover seems to be okay I think.

All my seed trays were blown over which delighted the chicken who ate the seeds and seedlings. My box of unused seeds were blown away too.

I'm trying to generate the enthusiasm to start planting again.:(

Oh poor thing! I had the same thing happen when I had one of those 'blow away' greenhouses.

It does happen unfortunately. OH bolted mine down to the floor.

You can start again. Can you keep them indoors on your windowsills?

The wind blew over my mini greenhouse this morning - or rather removed the cover and upper part as the bottom part is weighed down with an extremely heavy stone ornament and a concrete slab. I've put the rest of the greenhouse (and the plants that were inside it) in the garage until the wind goes down and OH can help me repair it. Hoping it's fixable... and here was I thinking it was in a sheltered part of the garden.

Hope you manage to repair your greenhouse Skipton, though it sounds like the chickens had a superb treat.

Having tried paving slabs to weigh down various mini greenhouses in the past I came to the conclusion that they are just not worth the effort. Strong winds can demolish them, weighted down or not, and they need regular checking to prevent sun overcooking the plants.

Got rid of mine and bought a proper greenhouse!

I got one of the 6' x 4' plastic greenhouses in the sale last year and decided to put it up last week. What timing! We've had 40mph winds yesterday and today. However the greenhouse is still standing. I put reinforcement patches on it inside and out using duct tape, punched some holes through these and tied the cover onto the frame joints. Then I guyed the frame + cover down using proper tent guylines and robust pegs, plus I made peg down loops for the door to stop the zips opening.

ATM it's shimmying around like an elderly green bellydancer but it's still standing. Watch this space....still, if it goes, it only cost me £7.50. I squeezed all my young plants into my permenant wallhouse btw, it's screwed onto a brick wall.

Mine got blown down on Sunday I had two bricks on bottom shelf. One site had a raised bed. I also got up early morning as I heard the wind and large a large pot to stop it blowing away. It tipped over and lost all seeds which were pack of sweet peas and some bulbs I had manage to save them
  • Now Im worried....Ive got one being delivered in a couple of days. Im hoping that using heavy stones and fixing it to the fence should help. Plus mine is going in the corner of the garden where anything not nailed down gets blown anyways!!:D
At least it isnt too late to plant more seeds though. I havent even started alot of mine yet.

I can now add my greenhouse to the casualty list.

I bought a four tier greenhouse from Argos two years ago and it served me well-the only think that needed replacing was the cover but I couldn't find a replacement cover to fit. There ARE replacement covers out there but appears they are too small for the Argos 4 tier frame.

Two days ago, I decided I might as well buy a new one from Argos but was dismayed on getting it home to discover that it was poorly made, not at all like the one I had previously.

In the short amount of time I've had it it's been gradually leaning more and more, like a drunkard trying to prop itself up.

Tonight's wind has delivered the coup de grace.
