Outrageous Orange Mobile Dongle charges

Orange and Everything Everywhere Ltd, what is their relationship? It is as clear as mud.

I have been royally screwed by Orange/EE for UK data charges on my dongle

They cap their mobile phone internet usage, but unlike other dongle service providers there are no caps or warnings on dongle bandwidth usage.

I had been paying 15 pounds/month for the dongle for over a year & hadn’t used it.

When I moved house, I started using it again and without knowing it I exceeded my monthly bandwidth.

Next thing a bill for £687!!!!

They refuse to discuss and my mobile phone service has been cut off.

I have been with Orange for over 10 years and cannot believe this.

Anyone help/advise?

  • What on earth were you doing to use that much data?

When you signed up you will have seen xxGB per month included. It's your responsibility to monitor and stick to that.

You may get a reduction, but they don't have to if you've been hammering the data.

You don't know how much data he used. If there was no cap set up out of bundle data charges can be horrific. They are also well hidden. I had a quick squint and couldn't see what they charge for out of bundle on contracts but PAYG mentioned £3 per MB which is an astronomical amount.

Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    Fixed that for you.

Come on you have to check these things it's your responsibility.

Anyway, if they can't do you some sort (if they've cut you I assume you cancelled the DD an refused to pay anyway) of deal I'd consider simply not paying it. Expect them to chase you though.

    same things happened to me.
i phoned them and they told me that when i was using it before i moved i had a poor signal so it used less internet, and when i moved i constantly got 3g signal and that it uses alot more usage than if you had bad signal

You don't use more, you have the potential to use more.

Each task you perform will use the same amount of data, but as it's quicker you have the potential to use a lot more.
  • Thanks all.
Orange/EE did a settlement for the excessive charges on the 16th April.

I thought that was the end of the matter until my April bill arrived and a further £450 was charged for up to April 15th. No mention was made of these extra charges when I made the settlement.

By this time I had totally stopped using my Orange dongle.

I have written to them again and had no response.

My services have been disconnected now for a month - Please advise who you contact for a correct complaint procedure?

I have one for which I pay £5 per month. I have been very happy with it and have never unknowingly or unintentionally exceeded my allowance. :)

Edit: You can set it to warn you if you approach a pre-set limit.

Dont see how you can go over as it tells you your usage, I had it for 2 years and never had an issue.
