You obviously haven't purchased a new Ford recently then.
If you want a spare wheen in a new Ka or Fiesta (I'm not sure about the Focus range) then you have to specify this when placing your order and it will cost you £100.

Yep 2 year old focus only has a can of goo. Could buy a spare, jack, tyre wrench etc. or just call out the recovery company I already pay for and haven't yet used. I saw some figures quoted somewhere re number of punctures per miles travelled (not that I can find them now) and punctures are not common even with the state of the roads as they are.

That's what I use. I got a brand new Golf last summer (it did come with a space-saver spare) and got a puncture within 2 weeks on the front-offside tyre. I used the above kit and the same tyre is still on the car. :)

    As to the insurance issue.
Just because you have fully comp insurance doesn't mean that you will be covered for a courtesy car as many policies no longer include driving other vehicles, and even if yours has this cover, it would only cover you third party for the courtesy car.
If you had a accident and damaged or wrote it off, your insurers wouldn't pay out to get it repaired or replaced.

I've never understood this. One of the principals of insurance is that to insurer something you have to have an insurable interest in it. I don't have any more insurable interest in a courtesy car than I do in the car that just went down my street. So how can I take out insurance on a courtesy car?

Never rated fiats much after a disastrous fiat mirafiori I had in the late 70s.But in those days few cars were reliable,I had thought they were vastly improved these days both with build quality and reliability and its possible you just got a "friday" car.
They should be offering you a courtesy car whilst sorting your own out but I would agree with another poster that your insurance may not cover you however it shouldnt cost much more to add.

I always assumed people only bought Fiats because they had to, not by choice.

I only thought people had Fiats because they had been given to them for free.

Surely no one would actually part money to drive round in one?

I would never consider buying a Fiat or any other foreign car, I only ever buy Volvo cars, which as everyone knows, are British.

I have had my Fiat car for nearly 15 years now.

Got as far as the dealership, test drove a new car, but could not bear to part with my fiat so still have it now.

I dread the day when it packs up on me and I have to buy a new car as I love it so much.

I'd hope you would be in significantly more control of a car you're driving than just a car driving down your street.

You are the risk, you need to be insured for that risk.

I had a Fiat many years ago. Good little rust bucket and was always going wrong.

We used to reckon that FIAT was short for - Fix It Again Tomorrow.

I had one volvo s60 but part, servicing , fuel was so expensive
And tgey had common problem after we sold I said bever in a million years I will buy another one and the next year hubby insisted he wants to get one.
After so much nagging I gave up and we bought the second hand s60.
    From garage with 3months warranty.
After exactly 3 months and 3 days the car stopped on the road.
Somuch hassle and repair I told I wouldnt step in the car,I would rather walk with toddler.
Car was in garage while I used taxis for a week and then bought peugeot.
I would never ever buy volvo again.
We did used so many cars and passat, mondeo and lastly avensis seems reliable and cheap running.
Now we are after 4x4 and we are trying to decide between ml320 or discovery.
I havent used any of them and Iam hoping it wouldnt be another volvo history for us.
