I have hundreds, it would take an eternity to convert them all. All I will need to do (for tax references) is to open them and view when required.

Maybe the answer is not to convert from XP to Windows 7 and to start again with a new hard drive or a new pc running Windows 7, leaving your XP hard drive/pc as it is. You could convert the last year or so's worth of files and move them across, and leave the others as they are so you can access them if you need to. Over time they will become less and less relevant anyway.

Others will correct me, but you need to convert the documents on the XP computer from 'Works' (.wps) to 'Rich Text Format' (.rtf).
Neither Libre Office, nor Open Office, or even Microsoft Word itself, will open any Works documents. Works is a totally different programme to the others named. I first found that out in 1996 and it is, AFAIK, still true today.

Office 2007,2010 and 2013 plus Libre Office all have filters to allow them to open Works documents.

Your Medion PC may not be suitable for running W7. If so, keep your old PC for running XP and Works on if you must. Or buy a cheap desktop PC with XP installed, maybe £40? But it's a rather clunky solution.

Nope, Libre Office doesn't work as there is an error when I try to open any of my files with it. I binned that and went on to Open Office. I asked for my Works files to be opened with Open Office but when I click on any icon nothing happens.Surely Works should run on Windows 7.

Also, another annoying thing is when I am browsing my photo albums, not all folders show as thumbnail previews. I have to manually set them even though in System preferences I had already set it to show icons as thumbnail pictures. Why isn't it showing all folders ?

If you have actually managed to install Works on Win 7, have you tried running it in compatibility mode? ... Right click the shortcut > Properties > Compatibility > and select the system it last worked properly on.

Another Works fan! There are two of us in the world then :D

I can open (and update) all my old works databases on a Win7 pc, can't remember now if I had probs to start with, possibly compatibility mode as suggested by Oblivion.

But I can confirm it IS possible, the only difficulties I have are printing reports, it thinks it doesn't have enough memory, but that used to happen with the old computer too so I don't think it's Win7, it must be something to do with Works and an incompatibility with my printer.
If you can't think of anything nice to write, say nothing. Rudeness isn't clever.
