We had a Meile condenser dryer delivered last week and it is superb. Fast drying and very quiet. Much better than our old Bosch and its got a ten year warranty.

Might be worth contacting Beko anyway http://site.beko.co.uk/Pg/ContactUs there is a freephone No, they should be made aware of any issues.

I had one of the affected fridge freezers. Thankfully it is now at the tip. My dryer that I have been using isn't one of the ones they recalled and could (probably) be fixed but I wouldn't feel safe using it again - hence the reason the fridge ended up on the scrap heap. Not very MSE of me I know. I'm one of those ones who unplugs everything before bed and when there's a thunderstorm :o

I think you should invest a bit more this time.

Not everyone has the space or location for a vented dryer so a condenser model is a good choice, not sure if these take more power vs vented models (I think our old vented hotpoint use to be more expensive to run when it was cold as it is living in the garage).

We changed our to acondenser AEG in 2006 and it is running like new.
The Zanussi ZDC37200W is very similar to our AEG and you can still get it under £200.

That Zanussi is the one I've got. It had a 12 month guarantee and has lasted almost 3 years (so far!!).

Another Bosch fan. Ours is almost 8 years old, its a condenser and takes about 45 minutes to do a full load to cupboard dry, so hardly a long time.

It looks like they still do a very similar model which is always a good sign.

The distilled water collected is used in the iron so no limescale issues.

  • Heat pump dryers are supposed to be good - I think I will get one when I need to replace my tumble dryer.

I have a vented type Bosch, it's 14 years old now and still going strong. It needed a new fan thingumie recently which cost £50 to supply and fit, the repair chap said it would be good for another five years or so. My washing machine is also a Bosch of the same vintage, also going strong with only a couple of relatively inexpensive repairs. They were both well worth what we paid for them.

Incidentally our washing machine repair chap said the No1 cause of tumble dryer fires was because of fluff buildup in the filter. He said you should clear the filters out every single time you put a load in, the machine works more efficiently and the fire risk is considerably reduced. It's not a difficult thing to do for my particular tumble dryer so I do. A friend of mine ended up with a major house fire on her hands two years ago due to her tumble dryer , she told me she'd been unaware you had to clean the filters out at all, eek.
