Tumble dryer recommendations please

After 3 years, my beko condenser dryer almost caught fire last night :mad:
I'm on my 3rd tumble dryer in 10 years! First one was hotpoint and lasted 5 years before it gave up the ghost, second one also a hotpoint and after 2 years the noise resembled a generator - as I was asked by neighbour if I had one running:o
Does anyone have any recommendations of a good reliable dryer? Living in Scotland and a family of 5 it really is a need rather than a want for us.

We bought a John Lewis condenser dryer a couple of years ago and it's been great. They are made by one of the big manufacturers, I think it's AEG. John Lewis own branded stuff also tends to come with a decent guarantee - think ours was 3 years rather than the standard 12 months you seem to get with the big names. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. If you change the world, the world will change.0

I have an AEG condenser from John Lewis, 5yr guarantee. Bought about six months ago. I'm very pleased with it. More expensive than some dryers but worth it.0

I've had an Indesit washer dryer for 6 years and no troubles. My previous Indesit lasted 13 years, 4 house moves and was rather battered, but it still worked faultlessly. I only changed it for a new one so I would have a smart one for my new kitchen.0

Hi
I would shop around and look for one that has a free 5 year warranty and a good energy rating (save you more money).
Heard good things about John Lewis. Iv got an AEG at the moment.0 -
A Beko product catching fire? Who'd a thunk it?
I suppose it depends on your budget. Mine is quite good, energy efficient and hopefully isn't about to break down but it was rather expensive (over £500). You can get a decent one for half that.
For what it's worth, Siemens, Bosch and Samsung tend to have good reviews with regards to reliability.0 -
I'd never have a condenser.. they take far too long and use far too much power.
Mine is a Hoover vented and is amazing.. it is definitely overworked with 10 people including a bedwetter and 2 toddlers. My last Hoover one I got lasted 6 years and was 3 years old when I got it.. this one I have had for 5 years and it is still going strong.. or it was this morning, it has probably exploded now I typed that lol. (Don't worry Tropez, it is under warranty)
I got a condenser one at the same time as I got this it lasted 3 years and burst into flames. The previous condenser was the same. White knight ones are rubbish I had one given.. I'd refuse in future free or not! I had a washer dryer that was appalling too, by the time a load was nearly dry it needed washing again it smelled so bad, I never got a full load dried in it.LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Thanks for the replies. Think I'm going to go with this one

Seems to have good reviews. I just hope it lasts a little longer than the previous ones!0 -
Washer/dryers can only ever dry about half a load at a time, if that. As my sister has discovered. I'd rather hang laundry up on a washing-line or airer than have half-loads hanging about in the basket waiting for the first load to dry.0

It's a bit concerning reading about cheap condenser dryers catching fire after about 3 years (I'm thinking about my almost 3 year old zanussi :rotfl:)
I'd go for one of the better makes like a Bosch. They are very reliable.0 -

It seems to be a recurring theme with Beko.
