Am due to get it in post. He was reg to sign off. Apparently paperwork follows.
To be fair, the total job was £350. £150 for the new box, £150 for earthing/trunking to water/gas & £50 for checking all plugs/sockets & bits. He was a nice guy too.0 -
Just moved into a 3 bed house in Banbury and have similar fuse wire unit. Some of the things not up to current specs are...the lights are not earthed and have wooden back boxes, the main earth coming in is PME (old and not up to spec), there is no equipotential bonding to gas or water, the tails are not thick enough, the garage is tapped off a socket in the kitchen.
Had three electricians in, 2 registered with the niceic, all pretty much saying a total rewire is sensible (as it is prolly 30/40 years old(!) and we are totally re-decorating). Waiting for the actual quotes to come in but roughly they are £2000 (with bare rooms and 1st fix - me doing the plastering) to £3000. We supply white boxes/sockets/switches/etc and new lights we want.
Hope this info helps!

I've just paid £150 to have this done in central London. The £150 was the total cost - electrician & box.
I hope you got one of these

£150 is a little low. A decent consumer unit costs nearly £100.
It takes a couple of hours to do the job, then you may have the bonding to do. The paperwork and testing takes around an hour at least.
So all in you will be looking at half a day (4 hours). Working out the labour this equals £15 per hour. Better staying in bed by the time you take off business costs.
A more realistic starting price is £250, all in. (asumming bonding is easily acessible, or done)
With this type of job paperwork is essential, you will need an electrical installation certificate. If you stay in England or Wales you will need part P paperwork as well.baldly going on...0 -
