use the scan as you shop at large tescos which allows you to pack your bag as you go. you just dock the scanner at a special checkout. these checkouts take coupons aswell. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-19810924

  • Some stores (especially the larger ones or those with a cafe) have storage cupboards to put your trolley in. Usually you need a coin to open it and you get a key in return. Simply pop your bags/carts inside, lock up and then do your shopping. When you have packed afterwards you can retrieve your coin.

My Mom used to fill up her trolley in Lidl & they never minded. Although she now has one of those tripod walkers & she puts the shopping in there, she wouldn't be able to carry a bag as well.

Even easier than trundling home with a trolley, is getting the shopping delivered. ;)

Iceland will do it free if you register and spend over £25 instore
Waitrose will deliver free on orders over £50
Ocado has some free slots for delivery on orders over £40
Costcutter - my local one does free delivery on orders over £35 and you can phone/fax the order
Riverford delivers free on orders over 12.50
Abel & Cole delivers for 99p on orders over £10
Co-op - big one in next town delivers free within 3 mile radius

ASDA, Sainsbury's, Tesco deliver too but I don't use them.

If it's a store with security or customer service desk you can always let them know what you are doing when you arrive, I wouldn't imagine the average shoplifter would draw that level of attention to themselves. But IMO home delivery is the answer, I get heavy/ bulky/ longlife items delivered every fortnight to every month, then just buy fresh in between which is easier to transport. It's cheaper than bus or taxi now.

  • I have a Rolser shopping trolley that folds up, it would be easy to lean this in the front of the trolley against the folded child seat.

Lidl has always been more laid back about people using their own trollies and bags. I think it is due to the fact they didn't use to provide baskets.

The asdas by us always have them left by the security guys desk, I'm not sure they make you do it or if they just do it out of choice.

I have a four wheel push along trolly and just put a wire basket on the top.I cannot carry bags or use a pull along as my hands lock up.
