Use the AMEX as much as you can because it gives you more Avios for each purchase .
If the shop doesn't accept it use the Visa
If they charge fee for credit cards use a debit card or cash
Don't use the credit cards for cash withdrawals at cashpoints. Use your debit card instead

Out of interest, why do you "want to use it as much as possible"?
Is it just to build up a credit rating?

If so, there really is no need.
I have one credit card which I use maybe twice a year, if lucky. However if you intend on using it to build up points then that's a different story, just be careful you don't over spend.

People spending loads on credit cards is why many are in debt as they spend more than they could actually pay.

Or they're not in debt and like to earn cashback on every purchase like I do!

Personally I avoid DDs. The discipline of 1) get statement, 2) check statement, 3) doublecheck funds in current account, 4) make payment is simpler in my view.

If you do go for DD, don't forget:
    1) they don't always get set up right away - so you might have to pay a further manual payment before DD takes over
    2) don't slip into not checking statements carefully
    3) remember that you must have the funds available in your current account when the DD is taken. If you don't, you could well get charges on both accounts and a report/reports to a credit reference agency.

Note: if you make the mistake in (2) above and there is a fraudulent transaction then this can cause knock-on effects when the money is DD'd. (Perhaps with further payments bouncing.) All fixable, but a mess.

Is there charges on all day-to-day purchases with credit cards?
It is quite common for a retailer to have a minimum spend limit before they accept credit card payment, e.g. £5 or £10. Very few retailers charge a fee for using a CC. Smaller shops and some discount supermarkets might not accept CCs.
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

I have recently received my first credit card and have no bad or good credit history except a monthly phone contract and student loans which I am still receiving.

I got the credit card to get the cover when paying for a holiday.

I only ever buy things that I have the money saved up for already so I will be paying off any balance in full straight away.

I intend on building my credit rating and would like to know when and where I should and could use my credit card to pay for things? I would like to use it as much as possible without adding any cost.

I have a lloyds duo avios mastercard and am ex and my current account is also with lloyds.

Thanks for your time and any help would be much appreciated.

I use my credit card for everything, even in the pub or to buy a Costa coffee. Basically I seldom use cash, and can go for months without using an ATM. Using my Barclaycard for everything means that I don't have to carry money on me and more importantly it provides me with an excellent spending diary. I can see how much I have wasted on non essentials. It is extremely difficult to know where every penny went if you use cash.

There is also the purchase protection which credit cards afford you. If used properly credit cards are a fantastic tool to control and track your expenditure. Also I would rather my credit card was cloned than my debit card if the worst were to happen. Good luck.

  • Numerous credit cards authorize cardholders to an expanded warranty and price defense on items, such as electronics and appliances, that carry a warranty currently. When it arrives to making online purchases, “It’s just safer to use a borrowing card. Many borrowing business business card issuers have relationships with certain live performance venues that authorize their cardholders to first dibs on tickets. But you have need protection from identity fraud during use it.
