Seaway Fish & Chip Restraunt, Cleethorpes

Seeing as it was the Easter holidays we decided last Monday to go to cleethorpes. We were recommended by a local that the fish and chips at the seawy Restraunt were outstanding (I think the term award winning was even used!) so we decided to try them out.
It was clear as soon as we got there it should not have been open; work men everywhere, tools scattered on ground etc. As soon as the woman on the counter saw us though she reassured us they were open and there were other people eating in there in the Restraunt section so we ordered a large fish and large fish, this was £9 all together:eek:
The portion was tiny, and the food was Luke warm, the fish was dry and old, the chips were dry, smelled disgusting, tasted like they were warmed up and were dark brown, no salt and vinegar even though we asked for it, we ended up chucking it all away and going to another chip shop. Just a warning!

OopsI used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
Did you pay for the food ?0

I think someone posted once that you never get fresh fish on a Monday. Something to do with the fishing fleet not going out on Sunday.
Still you should get decent fish.
I never trust "award winning" as this can mean nothing! It's not hard to win an award. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

we have a chippy like that. God knows how they got the award unless it's for worst ever chippy!
The fish is actually minced up greasy gunk encased in the greasiest batter ever. Disgusting.
The only clientele appears to be the late night drunks who wouldn't notice if they were eating dog muck in batter.0 -
Did you post a review on Trip Advisor? It looks like you may have anyway. The best way to name and shame is on there2015 wins £4.00 not mse:(
2014 £44.00:mad:2013 £83.00 2012 £601.50
2011 £1554.50 2010 £698.00 2009 £2793.00
2008 £2816.00 2007 £1034.000 -
"Yeah we did, they wrapped it up so we didn't realise til we got down the sea front and opened the wrapping up"
That could possibly explain why they were "Luke warm" but still doesn't excuse the rest.0 -
Fish and chips is probably my favourite food, and it really annoys me when chippys get it soooooo wrong.0

My ex used to work for a local newspaper. He said the "awards" meant nothing, and were mainly given out in order to convince the shop to take out a large advertisement to celebrate their award.0
