Boiler Inspections / New Boiler

Hi,
I'm in the position of having purchased my house 6 years ago, and at that time money was REALLY tight so "luxuries" like boiler inspections just didn't happen. I know about the dangers etc but.......anyway, it just didn't happen.
As my income has increased, I'm ready to put this in place but wondered who was the best company to go with? I'd also need my gas fire /CH inspected too I suppose.
It doesn't necessarily have to be the cheapest, just want reliable service.
I think the boiler is getting on for 7/8 years old so it may be that a new one is required - do some companies give you discounts if you have a service contract with them?
Please excuse my ignorance - I tend it be a bit of an ostrich with these kinds of things.
Thanks

Depending on your boiler, the manufacturer's support network can be very good. They have been on the training courses, and carry spare parts.
I had a Potterton call-out, a real eye-opener. The Heat Team Transit van had a library of parts trays. My local guy NEVER has anything. I have to go hunting for spare parts constantly.0 -

The heat team guy doesn't have to pay for anything the van is stocked by head office & no they don't carry everything.
there are hundreds of different boilers & you expect your local guy to carry 10's of thousands of ££££ worth of spare parts in his van just so you don't have to wait while he goes to the merchant.
You don't want much do youI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Why would you want to replace a boiler that is only 7 or 8 years old if it's working well? All you need is a service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I don't really want to replace it Macman if I don't have to but I don't think it's very well at the moment. A service might sort it out but if its a more serious fault, maybe a new one would be better in terms of economy going forward. Like I said, I'm no expert, but thanks for letting me know that 7/8 years is not old for a boiler! :cool:Mortgage at end 05/2007: £90200

You'll never know until you get it serviced.
Yes, a new condensing boiler will be more economic, but to recover the capital investment will take you maybe 10 years.
Make and model of your current boiler? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

It depends, with many heatline, ravenheat and ferolli models 7/8 years is positively geriatric.0 -
My boiler is 33 years oldFeudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
