The only thing to 'get' about iTunes and iPods is that the Sync operation works one way only - from the iTunes library to the iPod.

The idea is that the iTunes library is the Master, the iPod the Slave. When you Sync, unless you've selected the option to manage tunes separately, iTunes will rewrite the library on the iPod to match the library on the PC. If there's anything on the iPod that isn't on the PC library, it will be deleted in order to get them to match.

It's not designed to work in reverse, from the iPod to the PC.

I now have an iPod Touch. i previously only had a Nano. I haven't yet bought any tracks from iTunes directly onto my iPod. I have done it all via iTunes on my laptop. Does your statement above mean that any tracks bought using my iPod touch would be lost next time I synced with the laptop? Or does using iCloud avoid this?
