Getting tired of progs that either need to be bought or trial versions that only let you do so much.
I have an iPod Nano 4G & i'm wanting to transfer the files to my iPod Classic without putting it all in the iTunes Library.
What free program will allow me to do this?

If you're not using iTunes what are you using to load the files onto your Nano?
Just connect your new iPod to whatever software you use to load your music from onto your old iPod and load it onto the new one.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
I've used iTunes to load the mp3s onto my Nano
But my library only has a few albums in it (i've formatted the HDD countless times since i began). I went to delete the files out of the library so i could copy the Nano to it, but it said it'd pretty much erase the Nano when connected, which i don't want (obviously).
I don't fully 'get' iTunes. I think it was the Nano i ended up totally erasing shortly after i first got it because iTunes was confusing & it ended up erasing everything. Could've been my iPhone with all the apps actually. It was still down to not 'getting' iTunes.
Whatever happened to just good old drag & drop in Windows Explorer with mp3 players of old.0 -

With drag and drop there'd be nothing to stop you connecting a friends iPod to your PC and illegally copying all his music, that you don't own, onto your PC then putting onto your iPod.
Some of the paid for software you don't want to use can probably do it though. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

install sharepod try version 3.9.7 i find this better than latest 3.9.9 . Connect your nano and select back up ipod remember where it backs the files upto. Then connect your classic to your pc and either drag and drop into your itunes for the classic or use sharepod. I find apple only restrictive only if you use there software but i only use ipods.0

The only thing to 'get' about iTunes and iPods is that the Sync operation works one way only - from the iTunes library to the iPod.
The idea is that the iTunes library is the Master, the iPod the Slave. When you Sync, unless you've selected the option to manage tunes separately, iTunes will rewrite the library on the iPod to match the library on the PC. If there's anything on the iPod that isn't on the PC library, it will be deleted in order to get them to match.
It's not designed to work in reverse, from the iPod to the PC.0 -
Got it all sorted in the end (i think), although it's messed up a few tracks, but thankfully not many. So far i can only see one albums worth that i'll have to manually rename.0
