Do not agree to partial refunds - always insist that items are returned, and you will issue a full refund.
I recently had a buyer get an item, and write to me saying that an issue I had drawn attention to in a listing was much worse than I had said, and it would cost them £89 to get it repaired. The item sold for £129.
I told them to return it for a full refund, and at the same time I opened a Cancellation request copying in my e-mail regarding returning for a full refund. Two days later the the buyer cancelled the Cancellation request, and left me glowing feedback for the item!
Buyers who request partial refunds are ALWAYS trying it on. So beat them at that game - say you can do better than a partial refund, and you would be happy to refund them in full on item return. You won't hear from them again.
Partial refunds are a curse, and this request only seems to happen on Ebay, can you imagine any other retailers, online or otherwise, handing back some money just because a buyer asked without requiring a return??!0 -
Sorry, one more question, I have no advantage here in pushing them to open a SNAD claim have I? I should just stick to returning for a full refund.
I don't think you have an advantage in SNAD, but might they have a disadvantage? Don't ebay now note serial SNAD openers? But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

Report and block the buyer.
Stick to your guns: Someone tried the exact same thing with me once, and I stayed strong...basically telling them along the lines:
"I am unwilling to offer a partial refund on this item as that would indicate acceptance of the item in its current condition. However, I am happy to offer a full refund upon return of the original item in the condition in which I sent it to you."
I am not a business seller, and I would never have paid their return costs...in the end, they "conveniently" closed the case and left me a neutral with a comment which proved I was in the right all along, saying it was unfair I would not refund her half the money and let her keep the item!!0 -
Buyer will not return item and insists on a partial.
I have spoken to ebay who are at a loss to know what to suggest (it was Dublin and the guy I spoke to was lovely and really tried to help). They do suggest though that it would probably be easier to offer a small partail refund or at least assure buyer I will cover all return costs. I explained why I don't want to do a partial, but they just say it is sometimes the only option to avoid bad feedback.
They will not protect me from bad feedback or stars unless buyer specifically states they will do that if I don't give a partial. They also suggest that I get buyer to open a case in the dispute centre and formally state I will refund return postage on a return before I offer a partial so that this can be noted against the buyers account in case they now make a habit of it.
So basically that's it, I'm either going to get bad feedback, or I give in.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well only you can decide what's right for you and your account. It's easy for us to say, take the bad feedback and to hell with them. I personally have enough volume to be able to take a line of bad stars every now and again without losing TRS but only you know how it would affect your account. And how much money they are asking for back. Of course, they may leave bad feedback anyway! They deem him their worst enemy who tells them the truth. -- Plato0

I have only 1 low star and one nutral so can easily take poor feedback. I have asked the buyer to open a case in the dispute console so we can discuss this formally. I have also offered the return postage once item is returned.
Ebay, whilst being very careful and not admitting that their are chancers or scammers on ebay, did say that sometimes buyers will not leave poor feedback as they don't want to draw attention to themselves.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I didn't even ask as this was not damage- they are claiming the item was well used and not brand new.
It was despatched brand new and if it arrived used then someone at the PO opened it, used it for a while, resealed it all, repacked it and delivered it to my buyer the next day.
Mind you the story has now changed 3 times and even ebay say it looks suspicious.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Tell them, you have read the feedback they have left lots of buyers and notice they seem to receive lots of dirty items, You have now decided to contact Ebay as you know the item was new, and there seems to be something not right.
Then say you can obviously return the item at their own expense and you will check the item is infact yours then consider refunding them,
If they should open a case Ebay would tell them to pay the postage.
If they should leave you neu or neg feedback, just take it with a pinch of salt, reply to the feedback and tell your story. i.,e buyer tried to scam me, just read there feedback they leave for lits of sellers.Dont forget that little Thanks button , only takes a sec0
