Should I use my Iphone internet through my laptop?

Hi

A bit of advice really.
I have an Iphone 4s 32gb and have just got off the phone to Orange after haggling half way through my contract, they have lowered my bill by £5 but then awarded by 3GB extra for being loyal! (yay!). I now have 5GB data allowance, they said I use on average 1.5GB per month (so i understand that technically they know I wont use the extra they have given) BUT...

I also have a laptop with a 3mobile dongle which is 5GB allowance and I pay £16.98, I have had the contract about 6 years and just pay monthly so can cancel within 30days. I have looked any as I dont often use my laptop I use between 300MB - 1GB per month, therefore,

should I cancel my 3mobile dongle and conect to my personal hotspot on my Iphone to use my laptop? As between the laptop and phone I wouldnt go over 5GB would I?

Ridiculous paying £17 per month to use 1GB per month anyway. Cancel contract and just purchase a THREE Ready to Go 3GB Preloaded Data Sim for £11.29 that lasts for up to three months and use it replace the SIM in your existing modem.
That will immediately reduce your costs by at least £13 per month.

The iPhone Hotspot may be a good idea, but you will need to keep a close eye on your usage.

Check to ensure your contract with Orange permits tethering.

I'm on their Panther package which specifically allows it but I believe others, such as Dolphin, do not.

There's always a lot of discussion as to whether they can tell you are tethering to a laptop but I believe the nature of the data transfer is a giveaway.
