I've got Sky Fibre and have no issues, syncs at 40Mb/s and download speed up to 4.8MB/s.

well you have read forum link then tadley it is on certain equipment in certain exchanges on fttc only nothing else as to which exchanges no one exactly knows but some users have been putting up with this issue for last 10months and is still not sorted. the issue isn't sync speed its actual thruput which is about half of sync. i am just warning potential users considering getting sky fttc but it is down to blind luck atm who is effected and full network resolve with firmware upgrade at exchange level won't be completed till end may/start of june. so the fact your not effected really doesn't come into it for other people!
i personally am on sky llu and have never had an issue its all been good but for warned is for armed no?

...i'm reluctant to move my line rental from BT as they will charge an astronomical fee should i wish to reactivate at a later date...
Plus net is owned by BT and don't operate a LLU from what I've been told so your line rental with Plus.net would still be a BT line.

Only full-LLU providers would move the line from BTs network to their own LLU network. Sky and TalkTalk I believe are full-LLU.

Plenty of genuine fibre options, but only if you are actually in a FTTP area (where you a actually get fibre, not copper twisted-pair). These start around £75pm and are uncapped - but only if BT Openreach have you (or you live in a Pre-fibred development area).

If not, you get the same as everyone else with pretend-fibre, called FTTC, and the usual suspects rent the connection from BT.

Part 1) Wrong, Hyperoptic do FTTP to flats (not Pre-fibred development areas). They cost from £12.50, all the way upto £50.

Part 2) I've said this countless times before fttc is still a darn sight better than just copper from the exchange (and a step in the right direction).

FTTC is a step in the right direction (it would cost way to much and take to long to roll out FTTP nationwide.)

    Hi

I'm currently on the old Be Unlimited package, and using the TG585v7 router supplied by Be.

I'm thinking about upgrading to fibre optic broadband, as now seems like a good time.

Looking at the various packages available, i was thinking of signing up with PlusNet's Unlimited Fibre Broadband and calls, as this meets my usage requirements.

But i'm reluctant to move my line rental from BT as they will charge an astronomical fee should i wish to reactivate at a later date.

Are there any Unlimited Fibre Broadband only deals available that would enable me to keep my line rental and calls with BT?

I don't want to join BT infinity due to their throttling and traffic shaping.

    Cheers for your help

Should you want to return from an LLU service, BT do not charge anything for a return to donor (just a 12 month minimum line rental contract), and your line will not anyway require 'reactivating' if coming back from LLU. If it was disconnected, you'd pay the same reconnection fee were it on LLU or BT.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
