I am having trouble trying to get an insurance quote for a WAV.
This would be our first wheelchair car(not motability)and i phoned my car insurer to ask if they insured these cars, they said probably?
But when i give details the car comes up as a 6 seater van,but its a 4 seater with space for the wheelchair.
How do i go about getting a quote and what info do i need as i have the registration number but dont know what else is needed.
Any help greatfully appreciated:)

Can you not input the details manually, ie without using the registration no.?Signature removed for peace of mind0

Tried that and the car still comes up as a commercial van even though its a wheelchair car and when i try clicking modifications its just the usual stuff that comes up,bodywork suspension etc.
Im stumped, didnt think trying to get a quote would have been such a hassle:(0 -

Is the vehicle a car derived van maybe?Don’t be a can’t, be a can.0 -
Its a specialist area most brokers will know nothing about. The suspension question is because many have lowered suspension for 'wheel ons' etc. The adaptations, the chair itself, the carers insurance, wheelchair tie-downs and seatbelts are usually non-standard etc and even a disabled driver aged only 16 is allowed a licence, all are specialist area's. Start here to get an idea - they'll all be expensive, best of luck Tron.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Thanks for the replies.I now have a list of insurance companies and will start phoning on Monday.
I honestly thought it would be a case of just phoning my insurance company and getting a quote, how wrong was i.lol
Thanks for the link Richie-from-the-boro,will certainly give them a phone first:)0 -
I do the normal thing, use a price comparison site to get the price and then my husband phones them and tells them its a WAV, Im with Arriva currently and I was with RAC the previous year, my insurrance is do again next month.
They are not allowed to charge you more because its a modified vehicle but they do try by saying any repairs will be very expensive (which is true)
My insurance is just under £400 for my Paravan, I have full no claims bonus.0 -

That they are "not allowed to charge you more because its a modified vehicle" is news to me, and good news for all concerned.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. My Range Rover that has adaption is insured by Bewiser, the premiums are nearly the same as when you pretend not to have any disabilities with mainstream insurers. The difference for me was £50.
Swindon insurance brokers also insure another car I have through a different scheme, that includes the disability element with free AA home start (although I have Aston assurance with it)
